The Maker Diploma is a hands-on training program designed to empower people with the knowledge they need to take ideas from concepts to prototypes.
By the end of the program, a Maker Diploma graduate will be able to conceptualize, model, and create a medium-fidelity prototype of a smart device or a solution; which fulfills a personal demand or solves a local challenge.
In order to achieve this goal, each party has responsibilities that should be fulfilled as follows:
San3a Academy is the program provider and is responsible for:
Providing contents for the principles and practices of digital fabrication
Reviewing prospective students, instructors, and labs
Providing central staff and infrastructure for students, instructors, and labs
Providing adequate access to the machines and tools
Arranging lectures, recitations, meetings, and events for the class
Offering clear standards for assignments and projects’ evaluations
Certifying and archiving student progress
Promoting a respectful environment free of harassment and discrimination
A Maker Diploma student is responsible for:
Timely attendance and active participation in weekly lectures and sessions
Doing the assigned weekly work to practice and demonstrate skills
Reporting on and documenting your work with honesty and on time
Following safety rules and reasonable usage of machines and tools
Leaving work spaces in the same (or better) condition than they found them
Promoting a respectful environment free of harassment and discrimination
Students are required to attend all weekly lectures and sessions according to the following rules:
Students should attend online and face-to-face sessions on time. Late attendance by more than 15 minutes will be considered as absence
In cases of emergency, student's absences should not exceed 4 days, and an Absence Notification email should be sent to the group instructor before the session
Students should log in to online lectures and sessions from a laptop or a PC, NOT from their phone
Students should get their camera and mic turned on when called up by the instructor
Students should commit to the assigned time slots to them or their group regarding lab or space usage in addition to abiding by capacity guidelines
During the Maker Diploma round, we take photographs and videos of the activities involving participants and instructors to share the program’s vibes and updates. Some media may capture your participation, directly or indirectly. These photos may be published through our website, social media pages.
Students are required to finish and document the weekly assignments and the final project within the time frame of the program and before the mandated Evaluation deadlines. The grading system that is used in the Maker Diploma is the pass or fail system. In order to graduate, you should:
Commit to attending lectures and sessions (Refer to Attendance Policy)
Fulfill the requirements of the weekly assignments
Document the weekly assignment using text, photos, and videos before the Evaluation deadline
Fulfill the technical requirements of the final project
Document the project progress using text, photos, and videos before the Evaluation deadline
The student who fails to meet the mandated Evaluation deadlines for the assignments and/or final project would be placed under probation.
A probation status would prevent the student from refunding the deposit.
Student under probation is required to present their case to the program director in order to justify and explain the reasons for their delayed submissions
The student case would be revised and if acceptable, the student would be granted a conditional extension on the Evaluation deadline in order to finalize their work.
In case the student didn’t catch the conditional extension, it would lead to their termination
If the student fails to commit to their responsibilities, s/he will be liable to the Strike System.
A strike applies in (and not limited to) the following cases:
For each day of absence exceeding a limit of two days
Failure to meet the Evaluation deadline
Copying another student’s work from same or previous cycles, or copying from other external sources and claiming it as your own
Exploiting the machining usage quota for personal purposes
Breaking the Dispute Resolution and Communication rules as described in the Communication Section
Behaving in an unacceptable attitude.
Messing with components and machines carelessly.
Leaving the work area in a messy condition.
Throwing litter and scraps intentionally out of its place.
If two strikes are applied to the student, it would lead to termination from the program and loss of the deposit. In some special cases, termination could prevent the student from participation in future programs presented by San3a Academy.
