Fresh out of printer
After removing supports (nos geneh for scale!)
During this week we learnt how to prepare and print a simple 3D model using PLA.
We used Uktimaker Cura software to slice and prepare our stl model.
We had a challenge to print a simple T-rex model which should not exceed 15 mins.
To do that we had to scale the model down and reduce the infill to 10% and also make supports Touching Buiilplate only.
We also learnt how to laser cut simple shapes.
We use Rdwroks software to prepare our shape for cutting.
We cut a little dalmation dog keychain from plywood.
Using Rdworks we chose which lines to be cut, which line to be speed cut and which line to be scanned and gave each one a different colour (Black, Blue and Red).
We also set up the correct parameters as specified by the fablab.
To look out for ideas for this weeks assignment I chose to search thingverse and 3axis for ideas.
I wanted the ideas to represent me so I picked a simple character model of a Hallow Knight (video game) for 3D printing as I love cartoon characters. This little fellow shown in the image would be a great addition on my desk.
For laser cutting I decided to go with a simple gear keychain to represent my background as Mechatronics engineer and remind me of the beauty of mechanical engineering and design.
To prepare my 3D print I used Ultimaker Cura to slice and scale my model to no cross the 90 mins time limit and be only 3g.
As for the laser cutting I used Rdworks to prepare my design and set up cutting parameters.
The main challenge was to ensure that the model would print in less than 90 mins and took some tweaking but at the end I managed to set it up correctly!
During the mid of week session I discussed with my instructors my final project and we decided upon which ideas to implement and which ideas to keep it later in case there is extra time at the end.
During this week I learnt very important tools and skills (3D printing and laster cutting) that would be crucial to make my final project idea come to life.
