My idea for this week assignment is Harry Potter glasses, and simply because I do Love harry potter character and also it was simple for me as it is my first time to design a whole thing on fusion 360 so I didn't want to make it hard on myself 😂
I am inspired by this design from pinterest.
Software
Mahcines & Materials
Get the glasses dimensions from google, I chose the Medium size.
Choose the front plane to start the sketch
1- sketched the glasses with the medium size dimensions.
2- made sure that the sketch was fully defined.
3- Made sure that the lightning part was attached to the glasses frame.
4- Extruded the sketch into 3mm for laser cut.
5- Exported the design to RD works software and made the whole glass cut (black) with parameters (45 speed & 40 power).
1- sketched the glasses temple with the medium size dimensions.
2- made sure that the sketch was fully defined and used another plane to sketch the L-shape for the screw.
3- Extruded the sketch and used fillets.
4- Imported the design on Cura and used mirroring and flipped it to make two copies of it.
5- No support, NO adhesion and the layer height was 0.2mm, infill 10% and temperature 215.
Laser cutting:
The prepared .dxf file uploaded to the lab's computer that is connected to El-Malkey machine.
After that we adjusted the parameters then saved the file to the U file.
Then I went to the machine to start cutting but firstly I put the 3mm plywood in the machine and fixed it properly.
I set the origin point by using the arrows in the machine and the Origin button.
Then used the frame button to make sure that the size is correct.
After that we close the machine door and press on start to start cutting and also turned on the vacuum to take in all the smoke.
2. 3D printing:
Made sure that the design parameters was set properly.
Uploaded the g,code file of the 3D design in the SD card that is used in the machine.
Opened the file on Prusa 3D printer.
Getting the printer ready by heating its bed at 60degrees Celsius and nozzle at 215 degrees Celsius.
Installed the purple color filament and made the printer upload the filament and made sure the color that the nozzle dropped was clear.
When the printer was ready it started printing the design.
When the printer finished I used a putty knife and alcohol to remove the design from the bed gently.
The design wasn't supported so I didn't have to remove any thing it was perfectly printed.
After finishing the sketch I found out that this part wasn't attached to the frame, so i had to re-do it and it took more time and effort to finish it and to make the sketch fully defined i had to draw so many dimensions.
Sadly the bridge got broken cause it was too thin 🥹, next time I'll try to make it more strong.
Will in this week I learned how to use the 3D printer and Laser cut machines and for sure this will help me in designing and building the body of my final project (Robot) and also using some electronics for sure to make it able to do its function.
The coolest thing is that I have designed a whole product for the first time in my life and that was so incredible and such a big achievement for me.🥳
