Tarteel's Maker Journal

About Me

I am a fine arts' 2020 graduate, with a major in Scenography décor design, which is theatrical and cinematic set design. Currently I am a visual artist, designer, children book illustrator and a teaching assistant. Ever since I was young, I used to doodle and scribble all ever the place and hence I was determined to study art in depth. I was fortunate enough to exhibit my artworks locally and internationally in galleries such as New Envisions Gallery, Lacuna Festivals, and Elisabeth Jones Art Center ( Now Parallax Art Center).

That being said though, I am an all-over-the-place kind of character, and a huge curious person so I am always keen to learn new things. One of them is diverse cultures and languages, especially East Asian ones, I have learnt Korean in King Sejong Institute and I have started learning Japanese through online courses from the SISJAC and other institutes - after getting accepted in the EJEP Scholarship in 2018 in Japan ( a 1-month-summer course in Miyazaki University).

Another aspect of me that personally feels the closest to my heart, would be volunteering. I love volunteering and helping the community, it literally makes me feel that I am alive. Currently, I am a volunteer in Matar Project, aiding the blind and visually impaired students with their Education. In addition to that, I am volunteering with Iwan Foundation, as a Korean translator and a children book illustrator, creating educational books. This is pretty much all about me, well as far as I have been alive and I recall. I also love reading, trying out exotic cuisines, the sky, auroras and traveling!

I am very excited to learn more about the Digital Fabrication and to create prototypes. I have first heard of the term, theoretically in my academic study and then this year, I have been interested about sustainable arts, specifically installation designs. I have finished my pre-master's course a couple of weeks ago and I plan on doing my master thesis on creating sustainable installation artworks using residue and recyclable plastic.

Thank you for having me, it's such an honor!! I will do my best to learn fast in order not to make your lives miserable xD
