## Introduction
Welcome to Sama, a breathwork and mindfulness application developed by rarePixel LLC, a limited liability company solely owned by Sri Lahari Dantuluri ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Sama mobile application (the "App").
Your privacy is important to us. We are committed to transparency and ensuring you understand exactly what data we collect and how we use it.
## 1. Information We Collect
### 1.1 Information You Provide Directly
**Sign in with Apple:**
- When you choose to sign in with Sign in with Apple, we may receive:
- Your Apple-assigned user identifier (a unique, anonymous ID)
- Your email address (if you choose to share it)
- Your name (if you choose to share it during account creation)
- **Important:** We do not have access to your Apple ID credentials or password.
**Custom Breathing Presets:**
- Name of custom breathing technique
- Breathing pattern parameters (inhale, hold, exhale durations)
- Color preferences for your custom presets
**Session Data You Create:**
- Breathing session history (date, time, duration, technique used)
- Session completion records
- Cycles completed during each session
**Settings and Preferences:**
- Haptic feedback preferences
- Music and sound preferences
- Default timer duration
- Notification settings (time of day for reminders)
- Goal preferences (weekly minutes or sessions targets)
- Activity preferences (default technique selection)
**Wellness Check-ins:**
- Mood selections (how you're feeling before/after sessions)
- Frequency of mood selections over time
- These are stored locally and used solely for personalized recommendations
### 1.2 Information Automatically Collected
**Device Information:**
- We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or device-specific information beyond what is required for the App to function on iOS.
**Usage Data:**
- Session completion counts (used for app rating prompts)
- Feature usage (whether you've enabled certain features like HealthKit sync or iCloud backup)
- Last backup dates (for iCloud backup functionality)
- These metrics are stored locally on your device only
**Location Data (Optional):**
- If you grant location permission, we collect your approximate location (city-level accuracy) to determine sunrise and sunset times for ambient lighting features
- Location data is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers
- You can deny location access and the App will use default times (San Francisco, CA)
- **We never store, transmit, or share your precise location**
### 1.3 Health and Biometric Data
**Apple Health Integration (HealthKit):**
- If you enable "Sync to Apple Health," we write your breathing session data to the Health app as "Mindful Minutes"
- Data written includes: session start time, end time, and duration
- **We only write data to HealthKit; we do not read any health data from your device**
- This data is stored in your personal Health app and subject to Apple's Health privacy protections
**Face ID / Touch ID:**
- If you enable Face ID or Touch ID for app security, biometric authentication is handled entirely by Apple's secure enclave
- **We never have access to your biometric data**
- We only receive a success/failure response from iOS authentication services
### 1.4 Data We Do NOT Collect
We want to be explicitly clear about what we DO NOT collect:
- ❌ We do not collect precise location data or GPS coordinates
- ❌ We do not track you across other apps or websites
- ❌ We do not collect browsing history or search history
- ❌ We do not collect contact lists or social connections
- ❌ We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- ❌ We do not collect photos, videos, or camera data
- ❌ We do not collect microphone audio or voice recordings
- ❌ We do not read your emails, messages, or other communications
- ❌ We do not collect payment information (handled by Apple's App Store)
- ❌ We do not collect data from third-party apps
## 2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Sama experience:
**To Provide Core App Functionality:**
- Display your breathing session history and statistics
- Calculate your personalized "Breathwork Score" (habit retention metric)
- Save and sync your custom breathing presets
- Apply your preferences (haptics, sounds, default settings)
- Deliver session recommendations based on your mood check-ins
**To Enable Optional Features:**
- Sync data across your devices using iCloud (if you enable iCloud backup)
- Write "Mindful Minutes" to Apple Health (if you enable Health sync)
- Display sunrise/sunset-based ambient colors (if you grant location access)
- Secure the App with Face ID/Touch ID (if you enable this feature)
**To Send Notifications (With Your Permission):**
- Daily breathing reminders at your chosen time
- Weekly goal progress alerts (if you enable goal notifications)
- **We never send marketing push notifications without your explicit opt-in**
**To Improve the App:**
- Determine when to prompt you for an App Store rating (based on session count and time elapsed)
- Track feature adoption locally (e.g., whether users enable iCloud backup) to prioritize future improvements
- **No usage data is transmitted to third parties or used for advertising**
**We do NOT:**
- ❌ Sell your data to third parties
- ❌ Use your data for advertising or marketing purposes
- ❌ Share your data with data brokers
- ❌ Profile you for targeted advertising
## 3. How We Store Your Information
### 3.1 Local Storage (On Your Device)
Most of your data is stored locally on your device using:
- **UserDefaults:** For preferences, settings, and small data items
- **Local JSON encoding:** For session history, custom presets, and habit score data
This data remains on your device and is protected by your device's passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID.
### 3.2 iCloud Storage (Optional)
If you enable "iCloud Backup" in Settings:
- Your session history, custom presets, preferences, and goals are backed up to Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage
- This allows you to restore your data if you switch devices or reinstall the App
- iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest according to Apple's security standards
- **We do not have access to your iCloud data; it is stored in your personal iCloud account**
You can disable iCloud Backup at any time in the App's Settings.
### 3.3 Apple Health Storage
If you enable "Sync to Apple Health":
- Session data is written to your personal Health app as "Mindful Minutes"
- This data is stored locally in your Health app and may sync to your other devices via iCloud (controlled by Apple)
- **We never have access to data stored in your Health app**
### 3.4 No Third-Party Servers
**Important:** Sama does not currently use remote servers or databases. All your data is stored either:
- Locally on your device, OR
- In your personal iCloud account (if you enable iCloud Backup), OR
- In your personal Apple Health app (if you enable Health sync)
**We do not maintain servers that store user data.**
## 4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
### 4.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration.
### 4.2 Third-Party Service Providers
**Apple App Store & StoreKit:**
- Subscription purchases are processed through Apple's App Store
- Apple handles all payment processing, billing, and receipt validation
- We receive only anonymized transaction information necessary to grant you Pro access

**Sign in with Apple:**
- Authentication is handled by Apple's secure authentication services
- We receive only the information you choose to share (email, name) and an anonymous user identifier

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to:

## 5. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
### 5.1 Access and Correction
- All your data is accessible within the App (session history, settings, custom presets)
- You can modify your preferences, custom presets, and goals at any time in Settings
- You can export your data using the iCloud Backup feature
### 5.2 Deletion
**Delete Specific Data:**
- Delete individual sessions by swiping left in the History tab
- Delete custom presets in the Custom Presets screen
- Clear specific preferences by resetting them in Settings
**Delete All Data:**
- Uninstalling the App will delete all locally stored data from your device
- To delete iCloud backup data: Disable iCloud Backup in Settings, then go to iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Sama → Delete Documents and Data
- To delete Apple Health data: Open Health app → Browse → Mindfulness → Mindful Minutes → Show All Data → Edit → Delete entries
### 5.3 Opt-Out of Optional Features
You can disable optional features at any time:
- **Location Access:** iOS Settings → Sama → Location → Never
- **Notifications:** iOS Settings → Sama → Notifications → Turn Off
- **HealthKit Sync:** Sama Settings → Apple Health → Disable "Sync to Apple Health"
- **iCloud Backup:** Sama Settings → iCloud → Disable "iCloud Backup"
- **Face ID:** Sama Settings → Privacy → Disable "Face ID Lock"
### 5.4 Account Deletion (Sign in with Apple)
If you signed in with Apple and wish to delete your account:

- We will delete any associated account identifiers within 30 days
- Note: This does not delete locally stored data on your device; you must uninstall the App separately
### 5.5 California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

- Biometric authentication (Face ID) is processed entirely on-device by Apple and never leaves your device
- We never have access to your Face ID data
**Data Localization:**
Your data is stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account (Apple's infrastructure). We do not maintain separate servers for data storage.
**Your Rights:**
Under Indian law, you have the right to:
- Access your personal information

- Face ID/Touch ID authentication adds an additional layer of protection if enabled
**iCloud Security:**

**App-Level Security:**
- We do not transmit data to external servers (minimizing attack surface)

- While we implement reasonable security measures, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and Apple ID
## 8. Data Retention
**Local Data:**
- Data stored on your device persists until you delete it or uninstall the App
**iCloud Data:**
- Data backed up to iCloud persists until you disable iCloud Backup and manually delete it from iCloud settings
**Apple Health Data:**
- Data written to Health app persists according to Health app's data retention policies (controlled by you)
**Account Data (Sign in with Apple):**
- If you create an account, your account identifier persists until you request account deletion
We do not automatically delete old session data, as users often want to track long-term progress. You can manually delete sessions at any time.
## 9. International Data Transfers
Sama is developed and operated in the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States.
**For EEA Users:**
- Apple acts as a data processor and has appropriate safeguards in place for international transfers
- By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your data to the United States
## 10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect:
- Changes in our data practices
- Changes in applicable laws
- New features in the App
**How We'll Notify You:**

All tracking is limited, local, and not shared with third parties.
