FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Who makes the yearbook?
A: South Salem High School students enrolled in Yearbook Production create this book from start to finish. They work hard all year deciding on coverage, designing pages, taking photos, conducting interviews, writing copy, and ensuring we are selling a high-quality product. Mrs. Holt (the adviser) and a few other adults help with editing and contributing some photos, but this is a book built by high school students.
Q: Why wasn’t __________ included in the yearbook?
A: We do our best to include everything and everyone we can, but we can't always cover it all in a school of our size. Unfortunately, students who transfer to South mid-year often arrive after we have our portraits and name lists imported. We also work on strict deadlines with our printing company, so if an event happens after our deadlines, we are unable to cover it. This year, the final deadline for the book was March 17th, and the final deadline for the spring supplement was April 30th.

Q: Why is _____________ in the spring supplement instead of the hardcover book?
A: Because it takes so long to print and ship the books from Kansas City, our deadline for completion has to be before spring break in order to distribute books before graduation. The supplement is how we cover as many spring sports and events as we can.
Q: Why can't the yearbook cover graduation?
A: While we wish we could include graduation, there simply isn't time or money for this to be feasible. Producing the book later and mailing it would be much more expensive for buyers and require the yearbook adviser to work for 1-2 months of the summer without pay.
Q: Why does ___________ have more coverage than __________?
A: There are only so many pages in the book, so we have to make hard decisions about how much space we can give to each activity. Giving more space to one area inevitably means taking it away from another. This is an ongoing discussion we have every year, though, so if you want us to consider a new idea for next year, please contact yearbook@southsaxons.com with your suggestions.
Q: How can I be featured in the yearbook?
A: Besides attending school events and activities, fill out our surveys! We send emails throughout the year with opportunities to make your voice heard. Answering surveys also enters you into a raffle for a free yearbook.
Q: Why isn't the yearbook in school colors this year?
A: Doing blue and red every...single...year... is a little boring, don't you think? Check out these award-winning yearbooks that agree doing the school colors every year is old-fashioned.
Q: How do I find out about baby ads, senior pictures, and preording yearbooks next year?
A: All of that information is publicized in the fall. Check your email, StudentSquare, school announcements, school social media, Homeroom slides, and posters in the hallway for information and deadlines. We always aim for these dates: Baby ads due Oct. 31, senior pictures due Nov. 30, early bird price for yearbooks ends the first week of January, and all preorders for yearbooks end Mar. 1.
Q: Can I request people from yearbook to cover certain things like games or events?
A: Yes! We LOVE it when students share photos with us or give us info about different events happening in our community. If we have enough advanced notice, we can even arrange to send student photographers to capture the memory for you. Send your requests yearbook@southsaxons.com as soon as possible so we can plan space for your idea in the book.
Q: How can I help with the yearbook?
A: In addition to answering surveys, consider joining our team! Yearbook Production is a fun, project-based class that's perfect for people who want to get to know their community. You can choose what to cover and how you want to earn your points, and you will receive a free yearbook if you earn an "A" for both semesters one and two. Talk to your counselor or Mrs. Holt to see if this class is right for you.
Q: What if I have a question this page didn't answer?
A: Please contact Mrs. Holt directly at holt_haley@salkeiz.k12.or.us for further assistance.
