The planning phase is the most important step. After selecting a *Learning Goal and a Product Goal for their Personal Project, students explain the connection between personal interests and their goals as well as state a detailed plan to achieve their intended product along with success criteria (SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Bound). Being aware of ATL Skills at this step helps solidify a well-rounded approach.
Students will choose 1 to 2 ATL Skills to focus on for their Learning Goal and 1 to 2 ATL Skills to highlight for their Product Goal (e.g., Communication, Collaboration, Organization, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Social, Self-Management, or Research Skills).
Students explain the impact of their project on themselves or their learning and evaluate their product based on the success criteria they chose for themselves. The product is NOT graded, only the student's ability to reflect upon their learning is assessed under Criterion C.
*Frame the Learning Goal around PERSONAL aims and objectives rather than raising awareness or educating others. Outreach might be a byproduct of the process, but the task is titled Personal Project for a reason.

During the HECP class, students will have three opportunities to check in with their teachers. These meetings serve multiple purposes including checking for understanding with each step and to verify authenticity of student work. *AI-Generated work, including programs like ChatGPT or Grammarly, as well as other academic fraud like plagiarism, will require students to redo the assignment.
*HECP teachers will cover appropriate and inappropriate uses of Artificial Intelligence during class.
