Mrs.Prokesch's Website

Welcome to my classroom site! My name is Mrs. Prokesch. I graduated from Cedar Crest College and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Secondary Education as well as a Masters of Science Degree in Curriculum Development. I have been fortunate enough to be teaching English at Salisbury Middle School since 1991. I have been the Liaison for the English department and the Middle School faculty and the advisor for The Kindness Club. My degree in Curriculum Development helps me develop lessons able to meet the challenges of the Common Core Standards developed by the state for schools to better prepare students for college and the work force. Many different texts (On-line articles, Newspapers, PSSA samples, Portfolios, literature books, speeches, poetry, letters, student samples, and many more) are used in my classes to teach a variety of reading and writing methods throughout the year. Students will practice using the writing process more effectively, and cover the different purposes in writing to clearly grasp the different paragraph and essay structures. Reading strategies will be utilized throughout the year to enhance understanding of different texts. We will also use technology in a variety of ways to help improve reading and writing skills, ranging from using the Apple TV to enhance student engagement and understanding of the writing process, DLR warm-ups, grammar skills, vocabulary review to web searches, charitable sites such as Free Rice, email for The Great American Mail Race and ePal contacts, Google Docs, Google Classroom, Google Apps, podcasting poems on the world wide web and entering publishing contests, and using Flipgrid and Padlet to collaborate with penpals in different time zones. I consider this important class as a skills class where "practice makes perfect" when mastering different reading and writing strategies covered this year. Homework is a major part of the Language Arts class grade and an important part in developing schema! I encourage parents and students to feel free to reach out to me by email for any reason. All homework is posted nightly on the Homework site. In my spare time, I enjoy riding my horse, and going to the beach. I am married and have boy/girl twins in college.
