Welcome

The Saline music program offers the students of Saline balanced instruction in music appreciation, history, theory, and performance. The achievements of the ensembles are highlighted in public performances and community service projects, of which there are over 70 per year. The fourteen music teachers strive to provide a balanced and comprehensive musical experience that challenges and motivates students at all levels.

Elementary students in Saline receive 60 minutes of general music instruction each week in which they experience a wide variety of musical styles and activities. Then in 5th through 12th grade students have the opportunity to participate in many large ensembles, small ensembles, and solo venues.

In 5th and 6th grade every student is in choir, band, or orchestra - that is over 800 students in music every day! In 7th and 8th grade the students choose their elective classes, and there are approximately 600 students in choir, orchestra or band. Additionally, middle school students can be in extracurricular music groups, such as fiddle club, and jazz band. In the high school around 40% of the students participate in musical ensembles, including band, orchestra, choir, jazz band, marching band, fiddle clubs, and musicals. That is a grand total of approximately 2000 music students in grades 5 through 12 at Saline Area Schools! The dedicated music staff, with the help of involved parents, supportive administration, and willing students, are very proud of the high quality music program in Saline.
