The goal of the Elementary Media class is to create independent, enthusiastic, life-long learners and foster the joy of reading. We aim to create responsible digital citizens, develop creative problem solving skills through coding and makerspace, and provide an introduction to a variety of technology tools that can be used in the classroom to showcase knowledge.
Your child will be assessed in media on a trimester basis. The grades will be included with your child’s classroom report card. Assessed skills will be addressed in the areas listed, with the specific skills for each trimester outlined at the appropriate time.
Your child will be assessed in the following areas:
The learner will be motivated, self direction and responsible with library materials.
The learner will use technology tools appropriately to enhance learning, increase productivity and promote creativity.
The learner will develop and awareness of a variety of genres.
The learner will exhibit proper behavior and attitude.
The following rubric will be used to measure your child's growth and achievement towards these goals:
1= Beginning: Child demonstrates beginning understanding, requires frequent assistance and shows a willingness to try
2= Developing: Child understands behavior, concept or skills, may require some guidance and will complete tasks
3= Secure: Child understands, applies and extends behavior, concepts and skills, shows independence on tasks and is self-motivated
