How to Qualify

To be qualified for the Seal, you must show proof of your proficiency in English and another language. There are several ways you can do that. The pathway chart below shows what requirements you need. Your counselor and world language teacher are happy to help you with the process.  You can also email Mr. Azama (yo.azama@salinasuhsd.org) for additional support.

Q. Can I qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy with a language other than Spanish, French, and Japanese?

A. Yes. If you are proficient in a language other than Spanish, French, and Japanese, please contact Mr. Azama (yo.azama@salinasuhsd.org). He can set up a language test for you.  Even if the world language is not a commonly spoken language, we will try our best to find the appropriate test for you to show proficiency.

Q. I'm proficient in more than two languages. Can I receive more than one Seal? 

A. Yes. For example, if you are proficient in English and Spanish, you will receive one medal. If you are proficient in English, Spanish, and French, you will receive TWO medals! You must show proof of proficiency for each language.

P. ¿Puedo calificar para el Sello de Bialfabetismo en un idioma que no sea español, francés o japonés? 

R. Si. Si domina un idioma que no sea español, francés o japonés, comuníquese con el Sr. Azama (yo.azama@salinasuhsd.org). Él puede organizar una prueba de idioma para ti. Incluso si el idioma del mundo no es un idioma comúnmente hablado, haremos todo lo posible para encontrar la prueba adecuada para que demuestre su competencia.

P. Soy competente en más de dos idiomas.¿Puedo recibir más de un sello?

R. Si. Por ejemplo,si domina el inglés y el español, recibirá una medalla. Si domina el inglés, el español y el francés, ¡recibirá DOS medallas! Debe mostrar dominio de cada idioma.
