THE SUHSD CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT GUIDE

STEPS:

HOW TO COMPLETE THIS STEP & AVAILABLE RESOURCES/TOOLS:

As your team goes through the steps below, document your progress using the

Completed Examples:

1   Identify a pressing equity challenge to improve (e.g. low reading scores for EL students; high suspensions of African American boys)

The equity challenge should be aligned to a goal in the schools SPSA and/or the districts LCAP. To determine the equity challenge, teams should engage in a needs assessment and analyze any relevant data (dashboard data, assessments, etc.)

2   Understand the equity challenge and the system that produces it - Identifying possible root causes and drafting a problem of practice

3   Develop a SMARTE Aim

NOTE: If your aim statement is not completely SMARTE by the end of this step, that is OK. Do not let that stop you progressing. You can SMARTen it up later.

5   Develop a detailed prototype of your change idea

If needed, gather baseline data for your small dot aim and make your aim statement SMARTE.

Decide on common measures for your small dot aim and collect baseline data. Make your aim statement SMARTE. Disaggregate your baseline data by student group (ELs, SWDs, YiT).

Continue to improve by running PDSA cycles and updating your change idea prototype
