Information for Parents and Teachers. Información para Maestros y Padres de Familia.
Remember that this is only as of March, 2019. As time moves forward, prices may change for devices. Each Chromebook must also have a Chrome Management License in order to work in our Google Domain at Salinas City ESD.
Salinas City ESD reserves the right, where it may serve the District’s best interest, to request additional information or clarifications from vendors, or to allow corrections of errors or omissions.
The solutions offered by different vendors can vary significantly; The District’s selection will be based on the total solution not solely on price. Price however is the single largest factor. Additional consideration factors are based on:
Install - How well the vendor’s installation process and plan line up with the needs of Salinas City ESD.
Hardware - The capabilities of the solution vs the current and expected future needs of Salinas City ESD.
Management - The required Management Licensing for each device.
Service - The vendor's ability to provide service and support for Salinas City ESD's technology.
Background - Vendor experience from reference checks and industry research.
Prices are subject to change.
The Chromebook and all of its components are the property of Salinas City ESD.
If the Chromebook is lost, stolen, neglected, intentionally damaged, or damaged as the result of horseplay, please report those incidents immediately to the school office. The cause of the damage will be determined by a Salinas City ESD administrator.
Damages, including habitual accidents, to the Chromebook will result in the parent/guardian paying for the cost of the repair or replacement of the laptop. Failure to report any incident within two school days will result in the student/parent being responsible for the cost of all repairs or replacement.
Salinas City ESD reserves the right to inspect Chromebooks at any time.
If SCESD’s Chromebook warranty covers the damage, the device will be repaired free of charge. Otherwise, repairable damage will be charged based on the extent of the damage. If a Chromebook suffers damage that cannot be repaired, the cost for a replacement Chromebook would likely be less than $300, unless you have purchased your own device insurance (see below).
Just like textbooks, if a device is misused or intentionally damaged the student is expected to replace the device. If a device is stolen or lost, Google allows Salinas City ESD to permanently disable equipment in a way that prevents the device from ever working again with Google.
Chromebooks should be considered similar to other instructional materials such as textbooks. The SCESD Parent/Student Handbook addresses the loss of, or damage to, loaned SCESD property:
It is both the student’s and the parent’s responsibility to ensure that textbooks and other loaned materials are handled in such a manner as to keep them safe from damage with no more than usual wear and tear and to return materials to school in a timely manner. Charges for lost/damaged materials will be made either to restore damaged materials to reasonable condition or to replace lost materials (page X).
We recommend parents/guardians explore obtaining cases or cushioned sleeves to protect the Chromebook. Each student has been trained in class in the proper care of these devices. In the event of loss or damage, school staffs will collect fees for repair and replacement charges as they do now with textbooks pursuant to BP (Fees & Charges)
Should a device be stolen, Salinas City School District can remotely lock the Chromebook, rendering it useless. Please note - surrounding Districts have not experienced high rates of theft.
No. The district is no longer offering Chromebook insurance. Parents are responsible for paying for any damages to the Chromebook or Hotspot. The district will send you an invoice based on the Tech. Assessment & Repair Form
