Student Council

#5starschool

The Student Council is designed for students to understand all aspects of project planning and execution as they explore what it means to be a LEADER. Students will learn and develop skills necessary to work with other students, administration, and the community. With time for large group discussion about activities, working in committees, and on-campus hands- on work, each student will leave this Leadership group and Monterey Park Elementary School knowing they have contributed to making our school experience better for all those here today and for all those who will be here tomorrow. Student Council Leaders will help promote school spirit, leadership and civic engagement among students. Student Council Leaders will learn to be RESPECTFUL of everyone and everything around them. Student Council Leadership revolves around students who are PROACTIVE and those who SHOW INITIATIVE. Our focus in Student Council Leadership involves the ability to COMMUNICATE with all levels of people and to FOLLOW THROUGH on tasks.

All Student Council Leaders will be expected to participate in approved activities, which will serve to enhance the quality of both the physical and behavior environment of the school.

The purpose of Student Council:

  • To develop positive attitudes and to practice good citizenship.

  • To promote good relations throughout the entire school.

  • To improve student and faculty relationships.

In addition, Student Council is as a chance for students to meet new friends and work with a variety of people.

Objectives of Student Council:

  • Provide a democratic form in which students can address those school related issues, which affect their lives.

  • Assist students in planning and implementing fun and safe activities for their school and community that are student-led.
