AP Summer Reading 2026

Welcome! I’m so glad you decided to take AP Literature.

In addition to the assignments below, consider going to see The Odyssey and Hadestown in theaters this summer and watching any version of Hamlet at home.  We will be reading Hamlet in the fall and it would be helpful for you to have watched the whole movie before we start. The most comprehensive version is the Kenneth Branagh (1996) one.  It offers an uncut version of the play.  There is also one with David Tennant as Hamlet (2009) that is a good introduction to the play.

Assignment Overview and Due Dates:

• College Essay:  First Draft Due July 27th.

• Rewrite college essay based on my feedback due August 6th.

• Poem of the Day + Letter of Introduction Due August 10th.

• Novel + Three Chapters from How to Read Literature Like a Professor + How and Why Journal Due August 24th.
