In partnership with the MSBA, Salem has begun a process to consider options for a renovated or new high school. This project builds on the work completed in 2022 as part of the District Master Plan. The goals of the Salem High School Project are to:
Create a school which encourages our students to take pride in their school, and faculty and staff to teach and work in an environment that maximizes a student-centered approach to teaching and learning as described in the District Master Plan which emphasized preparing all students for careers and/or college.
Provide a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment for all students, families, and community members.
Provide a high-quality education in a state-of-the-art facility allowing our students to access higher ed. and for those looking for a specialized skill, as part of our career technical education programs, all with the goal of preparing them to have a successful career of their choosing.
Ensure that the new high school is a community asset allowing the community to host and attend meetings, participate in programs and services, and attend athletic and creative and performing arts events. This new high school will include some of the largest public spaces in Salem and will be made available for community benefit.
Utilize sustainable practices to create a building that minimizes emissions and meets our community’s climate goals, while creating a healthy and comfortable space for students, faculty, staff, and community.
Develop a project that most effectively utilizes financial resources, considering both the cost of construction and the cost of operating the building systems into the future.
