How often are grants made?
Grants are awarded two times per year, with application deadlines being February 1 and August 1 annually. Notification of decisions are in April and October respectively.

The Advisory Board will have the flexibility to recommend annual grants ranging from 0% to 10% of the balance of the Salem Community Foundation fund at December 31st of the most recently completed year.

Who can apply for funding?
In general, nonprofit organizations, including churches, schools, government agencies and community groups with a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit status. Applications from religious organizations, for a non-religious purpose, will be considered. Grant proposals from religious organizations for a religious purpose, and proposals to fund scholarships for individuals, will not be considered. Are donations to Salem Community Foundation considered tax deductible?
Because the Salem Community Foundation is a donor advised fund of the Glens Falls Foundation, all donations are technically to the Glens Falls Foundation whose tax id number is 14-6036390. Since all tax situations are unique, please consult with your tax advisor to see if a donation to the Salem Community Foundation is deductible for you.

Yes. While the Glens Falls Foundation has fiduciary oversight of the funds and takes a small management fee, the money you donate is earmarked for use by the Salem Community Foundation for the Salem community.
