What Was We The People '23?
For the past seven years, Salem Academy Charter School has participated in the We The People program through the Center for Civic Education as a way for our AP Government and Politics students to show what they know about the Constitution, its Framers, and the Civil Rights and Liberties it protects. Students prepared testimonies based on questions provided by the Center for Civic Education: ranging from Constitutional philosophy and history, to present controversies and challenges the country faces. This program helped prepare its members to be active, knowledgeable citizens.

Students competed against teams from other schools at the Edward M. Kennedy Center in the Massachusetts Competition, on January 28th, 2023. Salem Academy students went into the state competition with positive mindsets, not ever expecting to win, but trying their best and making the most of the experience. In February, Mr. Pelletier got a call saying that Salem Academy may be eligible to go to the National Competition.

In April, the team headed to Washington D.C.. Not only were they able to participate in the finals, and experience an enriching tour of the center of the Federal Government, but they made the memories of a life time.

This year, Salem Academy's We The People team had been offered the Wild Card position for the We The People National Competition in Washington D.C. This is the first time a Salem Academy team had the opportunity to compete against the other 47 participating states.
This was both an incredibly exciting opportunity, and also a sudden one. To ensure that all students who want to attend have the ability to, we asked for your financial support. After your generous donations, many students were able to afford the trip that ended up costing approximately $700 for every student, instead of the original whopping price of $1800.
