VCE/VCAL/VET Updates 2022

Hello, All 2022 VCE/VCAL/VET students. This site will be the space where we will provide you with any important news and updates that relate to VCE/VCAL/VET as we go through the year.

GAT 2022

Wednesday 7 September

General Achievement Test (GAT) held

Scored assessment: General Achievement Test

All students enrolled in one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence are required to sit Sections A and B of the GAT.

For the first time this year, Senior VCAL students will also sit Section A, which will measure the literacy and numeracy skills of participants against new standards based on the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

Sample questions and tasks indicative of questions in Section A of the GAT are now available on the VCAA website, including:

  • One writing task

  • Ten numeracy questions and answers

  • Ten reading questions and answers

As in previous years, no special study is required for the GAT. While the GAT is important, it does not directly count towards a student’s final VCE results. GAT results are used to check that VCE external assessments and school-based assessments have been accurately and fairly assessed. GAT results may also play a part in determining the final score for a VCE external assessment, if a student has a derived examination score approved for that assessment.

VCE and Careers Expo 2022 in the first week of Term 2 Friday 29th April

  • All attendees 18 years and over (current VCE students exempted) must be fully vaccinated (at least 2 doses) to be permitted entry to Caulfield Racecourse and the Expo venue. No vax, no entry.

  • No school bags are permitted within the Expo venue. A small bag 30cm x 30cm is permitted to carry personal items and snacks. Cloth bags will be available at the entrance to carry items collected at the venue.

  • Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the event but it is very expensive and a crowding issue so please encourage your students to bring their own snacks and drinks!

  • The person in charge of your group is to report to the Event Office (see floorplan in the Expo Visitor Guide) as soon as your group arrives to collect the unique, personalised wristband for each member of your group. Your wristband is your entry ‘ticket’ and must be worn at all times whilst at the event.

  • Your school group will be called to enter at or as close to your allocated entry time. You will enter as a school group.

  • Ensure you and your students all have your wristband ready to be scanned on entry.

  • Masks are no longer government mandated but, for the health and safety of the whole community we strongly advise you wear a mask in all indoor areas of the venue as physical distancing may be difficult in some areas.
