SAJC 2021 HBL

2021 Back-To-School Updates and Instructions for JC 2 Blended Learning Time-Table

  • In order to adhere to the revised Safe Management Measures for big group lectures and to optimise school curriculum time, we have revised Time-table that takes on the Blended Learning Model since July 2020. This model will continue for JC2 in 2021 with 30min added to tutorial for each H2 subject.

  • Under this Blended Learning Time-table, students will attend tutorials, laboratory-based and coursework-based learning in school and view online lectures/ complete asynchronous learning after school hours.

  • Through this integrated Blended Learning Model where online lectures/asynchronous learning and face-to-face (f2f) tutorials are complementary to each other, we aim to have our students taking greater ownership of their learning supported by teachers’ guidance and coaching.

  • Online Lectures/ learning activities. Students are to set aside 1.5 to 2 hours each day to view online lectures or complete asynchronous learning activities in preparation for their upcoming f2f tutorials.

  • With the Blended-Learning time-table, students are expected to be fully prepared (i.e. viewed all online lectures or completed assigned learning activities required for the tutorials) and report punctually for all classes.

  • Students who failed to view online lectures or complete the assigned learning activities prior to tutorials will be sent for detention to complete the tasks.

  • The suggested weekly schedule for viewing of online lectures is:

2020 Year-End Updates

  • The six-week year-end school vacation will begin on 28 November 2020 and school will resume on 11 January 2021. CCAs may run through to the end of the calendar year but CCA involvements between 5th December and 31st December 2020 are optional.

  • During the vacation period, students may only enter school compound for official business or to participate in activities organized by teachers who are present for the activities. Students must check-in using SafeEntry or via TraceTogether App or Token when the latter becomes available.

  • Students should continue to defer overseas travel unless it is permissible under prevailing MOH travel advisory or with special dispensation from MOE. In such cases, a travel declaration would need to be submitted via Parents Gateway.

  • JC1 students should capitalize on this vacation period to review their JC 1 academic performance and work on proactive measures that will improve their performances in their weaker subjects. This is essential as students move on to meet the challenging rigours of the JC2 curriculum which will see more application-based assessments. Having sufficient foundation in each subject is crucial.

  • JC1 Students are given homework/assignments to complete for the various subjects to get them prepared for the Back-to-School (BTS) Assessments in January 2021 and JC2 Block Test 1 (BT1) in March 2021. The scope of the BTS Assessments will be approximately 30% of the JC1 syllabus and each assessment will be capped at one hour. The BTS Assessments for all subjects will be carried out during the afternoons on Term 1 Week 1 (11-15 Jan 2021).

  • The Academic Year in JC2 2021 will continue to operate on a Blended Learning Time-table where students are expected to be fully prepared (i.e. viewed all online lectures or completed assigned learning activities required for the tutorials) and report punctually for all class-based lessons.

  • Students will continue to report to school by 8.10am on Mondays to Wednesdays and Fridays, and by 8.40am on Thursdays in 2021. This arrangement may be reviewed depending on the current pandemic climate.

  • Students are reminded to continue to adhere to Safe Management Measures (SMM) and stay vigilant during the holidays.

  • Stay well and have a happy holidays ahead, and we look forward to having you back on 11 Jan 2021!

Term 3 School Re-Opening on 2 June (Tuesday)

Dear students,

Welcome back after being away from school for 8 weeks!

In order to re-open school in a progressive and careful manner, we have adopted a rotational system on a weekly basis for the first 4 weeks. We will start with the JC2s having in-school lessons on 2 June for the 1st week, while the JC1s will have HBL. We will switch over in Week 2, with the JC1s having in-school lessons while the JC2s have JBL.

More information can be found in this link with regard to Term 3 School Re-opening which includes information on In-school lessons, Safe Management Measures and HBL matters. Please read through it thoroughly and take note of the Safe Management Measures and other relevant information to be well prepared for the new school term.

For the JC1s, some changes have been made to the JC1 CA Assessment Plans due to the new rotational model of Term 3. You may refer to this link for the updated version.

We hope you have found ways to cope with the changes and keep yourself safe and strong amidst the uncertainties. We are appreciative of your effort all these past weeks and we are proud that you have managed the situation well with much resilience and discipline. Nonetheless, do approach your teachers or school counselors if you need a listening ear or other supports as you transit back to schooling with an emerging new norm. We are One SAJC family.

We miss having all of you around and we are looking forward to having everyone of you back in school!

Till then, continue to stay safe, stay well, stay strong and stay united.

Up and On!

May Holidays 5 May - 1 June

Dear students,

Congratulations on completing the 4-weeks FHBL with much self-discipline and perseverance! This is indeed no mean feat as FHBL for such long duration is unprecedented in the education history of Singapore. Together with the support and hardwork of the teachers, you have survived it and I believe all of you have learned not just in the various subject-teachings but in many other ways such as being more resilience, more independent, more empathetic and more collaborative as well.

4 May (Monday) is the last day of FHB. Starting 5 May (Tuesday) you will be having your 4-weeks long holidays. We are currently working out the Consultation Schedules for both JC1 and JC2 as well as the JC2 May Holidays Lesson Plan. Nonetheless, we do acknowledge that both teachers and students deserve a good break after the intensive FHBL. We have therefore decided to keep 5 May to 18 May (minimally) as protected time. More details regarding Consultations and JC2 Holiday Lessons will be announced by 8 May.

In these 4 weeks of stay-home holidays, besides taking some time to consolidate your learnings that have taken place over the past months, do spend time on the following as well:

· Start or continue with an exercise regime

· Learn a new craft

· Plan virtual gatherings with friends, classmates and/or CCA mates

· Plan a surprise for your family

· Start an advocacy for a good cause or be a volunteer [parental consent is needed]

· Write gratitude notes to anyone or everyone who has helped you in some ways, including one for yourself

Last but not least, give yourself a treat for staying safe and keeping well during this period as we know every effort counts. In this May Holidays, do continue to practice good personal hygiene and do not go out for any social gathering until the Circuit Breaker is lifted. Wear a mask if you are out of your house for a good reason. Otherwise, stay home and stay safe.

Here’s a diagram that was shared on FB recently which I think is useful as a guide for our well-being during this season of uncertainty and limited mobility. I wish you well and see you back in college on 2 June!

SAJC Up and On!

Best regards,

Mrs Whang
