ENGLISH III Course Syllabus
2022-2023School Year
Textbook Titles: Spring Board Grade 11
Course Description: Students will learn and apply the necessary skills of reading comprehension
as they survey genres of American literature. Students will participate in an ongoing review and application of writing skills, including organization, vocabulary, and grammar conventions in preparation of SAT/ACT testing.
Course Objectives: Students will:
Utilize reading comprehension skills to identify and understand major works in various genres of American and world literature.
Possess writing skills such as analysis that will show an awareness of organization, diction, imagery, details, language, and syntax, along with proper grammar conventions.
Effectively communicate in writing by using a process of collecting information, arriving at conclusions, and synthesizing answers from a variety of sources.
Present material in a cohesive and coherent manner.
Grading System: Students’ grades will be comprised of:
Minor grades (daily work, composition entries, etc.) 40%
Major grades (tests, essays, projects, etc.) 60%
Progress Reports: Students will receive a progress report every three weeks of each nine-week period, and a
report card the Friday following each nine-week period.
Final Exams: The First Semester Exam will be a state mandated formatted exam that includes any
vocabulary, spelling, literature, and grammar taught in the first semester.
The Second Semester Exam will be a state mandated formatted exam that includes any
vocabulary, spelling, literature, and grammar taught in the second semester.
Make-Up Work: Make-up work will be managed according to the guidelines stated in the Student Handbook.
My webpage as well as my classroom will advise of times that are available for you to make
up your work.
Late Work Late work will be accepted for up to three days after the due date with no grade higher than a 70. No late work will be accepted after the three-day window.
Tardy: If a student is late to class, he/she will be counted tardy. Three tardies counts as one
unexcused absences.

Follow all school rules as stated in the Student Code of Conduct/Student Handbook.
Always be READY to work in your assigned seat and with fully charged IPAD.
Always be RESPECTFUL of yourself, peers, and teachers.
Always be RESPONSIBLE for yourself, your actions, and your decisions.

Pens (only black, blue, and red. Work only accepted in blue or black ink.)
