Mrs. Campbell's
6th Grade ELAR
6th Grade ELAR
My name is Karla Campbell, and I will be your Language Arts teacher this year. I am very excited to get to know you and can't wait to see all that this year has in store for us! I wanted to write this biography to tell you a little about my education, hobbies, and of course my family.
My love for teaching started when I was in first grade. My parents and I came to the US from Mexico without knowing any English. I remember vividly how my mom and I would cry because I was frustrated that I didn't understand the language and she was devastated because she could do nothing to help me. It was my first grade teacher, Mrs. Quintela, who inspired me to become a teacher and pay it forward. She devoted many after school hours to teaching me how to speak English and also took it upon herself to teach me how to read and write. It was because of her dedication that a passion for teaching was ignited in me from a very early age. Because of her, my grandpa, and the support of my parents, I graduated from Angelo State University in May 2002. This will be the beginning of my 23rd year of teaching, but I still get butterflies in my stomach as if it were my first!
I rarely have time for myself, but when I do I enjoy reading, shopping, and scrapbooking. Some of my favorites include Tuesdays with Morrie, books by Rachel Hollis, and poetry by Langston Hughes and Tupac and short stories by Edgar Allen Poe. I also enjoy documenting my family's adventures through scrapbooking I will always remember what my grandfather once said to me, "Mija, take lots of pictures because one day all you will have left are the memories." I miss my Buelito and his wisdom so much.
Last but definitely not least, there's my family. I have been married for 22 years and have three sons. I am very family oriented and love to hang out with my boys. There will be many times I will share stories about Ryland's funny antics, Sean's awesome saxophone abilities or funny personality, and Branden's basketball talent. They are my world and make me very proud.
If you made it this long, thank you for reading, it means a lot to me. I really can't wait to spend this year with you and watch you grow personally and academically. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions and/or concerns :)
Sincerely,
Mrs. Campbell
