Putting words to paper has always been difficult for me so it was an awakening experience when I integrated music into my life. I believe that expressing our emotions is a vital part of what makes us human. Any emotion that I’m feeling I can find a song or a piece of music that expresses how I feel. The lyrics, the key that it is written in, the progression of the chords, and the instruments played all go into how I determine how it makes me feel or reminds me of an emotion that I’ve felt. I firmly believe that a teacher can define how I feel about a class. I wouldn’t have fostered such a passion for music if it had not been for a teacher I had throughout my middle and high school years as an adolescent. She not only taught me fundamentals of music and vocal techniques, but how to be a caring and respected person. The moment I entered her classroom, nothing else mattered. When I told her I wanted to be a music teacher she began to challenge me more and give more meaning to my life. My reason for being a teacher is simple: I want to create a safe environment where students can find themselves and express themselves. I want to pass on the wealth of knowledge I gained and hopefully give meaning to their lives.
