Dear Parents and Guardians:
May 14, 2024
Happy Reading Week! While our special events began last Friday, so far, this week has been
very exciting. This has been a tradition at St. Rose for years and one that is educational in
promoting reading and also a lot of fun. Please remember our Scholastic Book Fair is open all
week and all classes will be visiting. Contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you have
questions about the shopping day. Please see the attached flyer for details regarding the
Reading Week!
The Bookfair will be open on Friday during Grandparents Day. Please complete and send in
your child’s flyer prior to Grandparents Day if you have not already done so, as it serves as a
permission slip for dismissal. All are welcome to our celebration of Mass at 10:30 am at SSRC
and our downstairs reception immediately following Mass.
On Monday, May 20th we will host a dress-down day with a voluntary collection which will be
used toward recognizing the 15th anniversary of Father Andrew Messinia’s ordination. Father
gives much of his time to our community and to show him our appreciation we want to have an
announcement in the RI Catholic next month. During June it is a tradition for parishes to
acknowledge their Pastor on their anniversary. As always the collection is voluntary but we hope
that everyone will support the dress down day.
As a reminder tomorrow we will also host another dress down for a special cause; Idiopathic
Pulmonary Hemosiderosis, or IPH. Mrs. Gail Pecchia, one of our middle-school Math
teachers, has organized this event for a child dear to her heart. The collection is voluntary but
they are asking pupils to wear yellow or blue. Please refer to the attached letter for details.
Our Annual Walk-A-Thon is happening on Thursday, May 23rd! Drop-off and dismissal are as
usual. All students should wear their gym uniform that day. The event is a fundraiser and
proceeds are used for our operational budget. Please support the program by helping your
child obtain sponsors. Details and a pledge sheet regarding this exciting tradition are
attached.
Peace,
Mrs. Izzi

St. Rose’s Grade 4 teacher, Mr. Jablonski, has recently self-published two children’s
books on Amazon: How Do You Stand Out?; You are Unique; Make a Difference in the
World! and 365 Daily Quotations To Build Character and Inspire Kids. Both will be
available at the Book Fair on Grandparents’ Day. These books were created to be
shared by parents, grandparents, caregivers and teachers with children inspiring them
to be kind, help others, share their talents, and be their best version. STAND OUT!
STAND OUT! (The 8 Do Always Habits) posters that go along with the theme of these
books will also be available in two different colors and sizes. Cash and Venmo may be
used when purchasing and a portion of the sales from this day will be donated back to
our school!
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found is growing. Please take the time to stop in to peruse when picking
up pupils from Kids’ Haven. We are having all Homerooms take a look but parents are
welcome to browse too.
Summer Camps/Programs
Chesterton Arts Week at Chesterton Academy

love for the beautiful, encourage students to take risks, and help them encounter their
own humanity by stepping into the tradition that includes great artists like Shakespeare,

Chesterton through the Arts this summer! July 22nd-26th from 9am-4pm. Open to
Rising 7th-9th Graders. Visual Arts & Art History (9:00-11:30 AM) and Performing Arts &

Middle School
Community Service
The remaining community service hours are due.
Please remember all middle school students are required to complete 15 hours of
service each year. This requirement counts as a quiz grade, as outlined in the parent
notice signed at the beginning of the year. Grade 8 students who wish to receive the
Blue Service Cord must complete 30 hours of service and write a reflection paper on
their service, also due by May 17.
Because there have not been as many opportunities to work in the church this Spring,
the requirement to have 5 hours at church/school will be waived and students who have
not completed the hours for that category may do so at home or in another community
setting.
