1st Quarter: start the year rehearsing songs for our Opening School Mass - especially a song that represents our school theme. Use boomwhackers to introduce basic concepts of music - the beat, pitch, harmony, and rhythm with the program, "Boomin' the Basics" from the Essential Elements Music Class.
2nd Quarter: begin rehearsing for our Christmas Concert performances! Always an exciting time to teach the songs and narrations that we will be using for the concert! See dates and times of performances in the Christmas Concert tab on this website. Our Christmas Concert songs are from the program, "Shepherds, Stars and a Savior". The narrations, song lyrics and audio tracks are posted above!
3rd Quarter: Learn basic musical notation through the website "Making Music Fun". Students alternate playing a xylophone and virtual piano to assist them in learning the pitches C, D, & E, as well as the note values of quarter notes, half notes and whole notes. Teach the students how to play the recorder - a simple woodwind instrument that is easy to play and produces a light tone. Students learn to read notation, identify and play the notes, "D (low) - E - G - A - B - C - D (high)", and differentiate between quarter notes, half notes and eighth notes.
4th Quarter: Continue our playing of recorders and prepare for a concert. We will present the songs, "Hot Cross Buns", "Gently Sleep", "Merrily We Roll Along", "Old MacDonald", "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", "When the Saints Go Marchin' In" and "Ode to Joy".
