Welcome to 7th grade!
Thank you for visiting the 7th grade class page! The following is a short preview of the happenings in the 7th grade at St. Pius School. Please know that we do many more exciting academic and service projects throughout the year than are listed here, as well as, many school-wide activities such as the Annual Turkey Trot, Jog-A-Thon, and Catholic Schools Week, just to name a few.
Please meet the Middle School teaching staff: Mrs. Berkholz is the homeroom teacher for the 7th grade; she also teaches Middle School Math and 8th grade Religion. Ms. Lutzko teaches Science and 7th grade Religion. Mrs. Scanlon teaches Social Studies and 6th grade Religion. Mrs. Stiles teaches Middle School Language Arts.
Homework is given Monday through Thursday and sometimes on weekends. Students use assignment notebooks to keep track of homework, upcoming events, and for communication between the parents and the teachers. We adhere to the grading scale put forth by the Archdiocese. Parents and students may check on grades using the FACTS website. Grades are usually posted within a week of the assignment.
The greatest challenge for all middle school students is the mastery of organizing their time, work, and materials. Students are expected to come to class prepared to work. This means having all their materials and supplies ready to begin class. Folders, homework, books, notes, paper, and writing tools are needed every day. 7th Graders have lockers to store their supplies. Students may bring in items to aid with organization or decoration of their lockers.
The 7th grade has provided leadership through the Living Rosary in October and has played a significant role in live participation in our School Mass. The Safety Patrol is also a responsibility of the 7th grade students.
Generally, students are able to participate in several academic endeavors during the year. We compete in the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee, the Aquinas Academic Olympics, and for many years, the Wayne County Science Olympiad competition. Students often compete in other academic contests such as poster, poetry, or essay contests. The students spend time in service to others as a way of fulfilling our commitment to God. We also manage to find time for activities with other classes, like our Kindergarten buddies.
If you have any questions or would like to come visit us to see what we are really like, we look forward to hearing from you. Please call the school office at 734-284-6500.
