Scholarship Opportunities for 8th Graders

The Colleen Smith Memoria Scholarship application is now open.

THE COLLEEN P. SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Many students will struggle to achieve scholastic excellence but fall just short, as did Colleen. These same students will be involved with sports or the arts or their schools for the sheer pleasure of it and not be recognized for their efforts, as did Colleen. This fund seeks to award scholarships to students who demonstrate the desire to succeed but
fall just short of the scholastic grades or sheer talent required to be awarded other scholarships. We, the Board Members of the Colleen P. Smith Memorial Fund, believe they deserve to be recognized. Therefore, this scholarship is not intended for the best student or athlete. Rather, it is for students who have a B+ to B- average and are involved with sports or school activities and are recognized by their teachers and coaches as working to their fullest potential.

The Board Members of the Colleen P. Smith Memorial Fund will award a total of four $1,500 freshman year scholarships to deserving eighth grade students from St. Matthew’s and/or St. Cecelia’s school who will be attending a Catholic high school.

The deadline for submission of the student-completed application and a recommendation from a teacher, school official, or coach is May 1, 2024. Applications received after that date will not be considered.

The Nicholas Flacco Memorial Scholarship

The Nicholas Flacco Memorial Foundation was created by his family to keep Nicholas’ name and spirit alive. The foundation will award two $1000 scholarships each year to an incoming freshman attending Holy Ghost Preparatory High School and Father Judge High School. Application can be made through the foundation’s website listed below. 

Scholarship applications must be completed and submitted by May 28th, 2024. Applicants should review the About page as well as search the internet to learn about Nicholas and then reflect on what they learned as they fill out the application. Award winners will be notified through e-mail by June 3rd. The award will be sent to the applicant's school of choice to be deposited in their account prior to the beginning of the school year.
