THE VIRAL AGE

The Viral Age speaks not only to living through a global pandemic, but also to the witness of self in the context of this life-changing experience. All parts of our emotional selves are brought to the fore in response to the ever-evolving news surrounding this worldwide event. In the struggle among trepidation, anxiety, despair, curiosity, wonder, hope, and enlightenment, we may experience all of these feelings at once. This multiplicity is evoked in the live installation featuring an infinity mirror and the sculptural works of our students. Walking through the artificial pathway of suspended rods, one may approach the mirror and witness simultaneous selves or else the projection of future selves. This may be an opportunity to reflect on what you have learned about yourself in living through this experience, as well as a chance to conjure your own contribution to the benefit of others in what is to come. Beyond the mirror lies a display of sculptures manifesting FEAR and HOPE. The viewer is invited to leave their fears behind and receive the hopeful messages offered. One may even be inspired to create their own work of art as a contribution to this process piece. Art, as the ultimate expression of self, can be an instrument of connection and positive change.
