A DAY AT THE LIBRARY...

Children should be choosing a book not at a frustrated level, but at a comfortable, and if ready, independent reading level. Volunteers are there to assist children in finding an appropriate book for their individual reading level.

Pre-K

Pre-K will have a 30 minute library session. Students will gather around the story tree and listen to a story. After they hear a story, students will choose a book to take home with them. Pre-K children are supervised at the picture book section of the library where they have the opportunity to decide on their book. Check out line is supervised, so children are safely distanced.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten will have a 30 minute library session. Students will gather around the story tree to listen to a story. With guidance from the library staff, they will then find their book in the picture book section of the library.

1st Grade

First grade will have a 30 minute library session. Students will gather around the story tree to listen to a story. Students will then find an appropriate book for their reading level. Most first graders will be looking in the picture book section, however, the library also has leveled reading books suitable for first grade.

2nd Grade

Second grade will have a 30 minute library session. Students will gather around the story tree or sit at the tables to listen to a story. Students will then find a book appropriate to their reading level. Picture books, leveled reading books, and the junior fiction section are available to the second graders.

3rd Grade

Third grade will have a 30 minute library session. Students will listen to a story either around the story tree or at the tables. Third graders are then encouraged to pick a book at an independent reading level. The library holds an assortment of chapter books proper for a wide variety of reading levels.

4th Grade

Fourth grade will have a 30 minute library session. Students will listen to a story at the tables or around the story tree. Fourth grade will then find their book to check out. Junior fiction, paperback chapter books, fiction or non-fiction are encouraged for fourth graders.

5th Grade

Fifth grade will have a 30 minute library session. The students will be read a story of either fiction or non-fiction and are then able to find their book to take home. Fifth graders have the full-range of the library. They can look among the stacks in the fiction and non-fiction sections. They can also look in the junior fiction and paperback chapter books.

6th Grade

Sixth grade will have a 30 minute library session. Whether it is fiction or non-fiction, sixth grade students will have the full-range of the library to choose from. Students will generally come down to the library to pick a book and have some quiet reading time. If time allows, students may be read a story or enjoy a fun group project.

7th and 8th Grades

While seventh and eighth grade students do not have a set library time, they are still able to use the library! Whether it is researching a project or just finding a book to read for pleasure, this must be done during library hours when a volunteer is present in the library. Use of library time must be arranged with the students' teachers.
