Exploratory Spanish

¡Hola! My students know me as Señora Hernández. As a native Spanish speaker, it is my passion to share with my students the love for my language and culture.

This is my 4 th year teaching exploratory Spanish to grades 3k thru 6 th , and High School credit Spanish (Spanish 1) to grades 7 th and 8 th here at Saint Anthony Catholic school.

When teaching Spanish, I try to bring as much as possible of the Hispanic culture into our classroom. My students love to sing and listen to music in Spanish, learning about different cultures and traditions, and to have fun while learning a new language.

By being exposed to a different language, cultures and traditions, our kids learn how to appreciate and embrace diversity and cultural differences, while learning the importance of respecting and celebrating the differences in all people.

Spanish I

In this High School credit course, students explore the Spanish language by focusing on the four key areas of foreign language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Each unit contains new vocabulary theme and grammar concepts, reading and listening comprehension activities, speaking and writing activities.

Students become familiar with common vocabulary terms and phrases, comprehend a wide range of grammar patterns, participate in simple conversations and respond appropriately to basic conversational prompts. They will also be able to analyze and compare cultural practices and perspectives of various Spanish speaking countries, as well as take frequent assessments where their language progression can be monitored.

Spanish 1 course is aligned to national standards as set forth by ACTFL (the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages).

By the end of the 8th grade, students enrolled in this course will take the National Spanish Exam (NSE), which is a motivational competition to recognize student achievement and proficiency in the study of Spanish.
