WELCOME to 5K

God called me to teaching when I was young.  I am here to guide kids to reach their true potential.

This is my 14th year teaching.  I have a BA in Elementary Education (K-8th) from Boise State University.  Go Broncos!  I taught music at a Catholic School for grades Preschool-8th grade.  The rest of my career has been teaching in the public schools: kindergarten, first, and second (all traditional), and 3 years of Montessori at McLaurin Elementary in Florence SC.

My husband Rick and I both hail from the west; myself from Idaho and Rick from Albuquerque, New Mexico.  He is the Director of Reimbursement in finance at McLeod.  Saint Anthony is our home parish.

I love singing and I also play the piano.  Music is very important to me (especially with my faith).  I enjoy reading mystery books, books about my Catholic Faith, and my favorite author for leisure reading is Nicholas Sparks!  I like to cook, spend time with family and friends, and watch Netflix.  Tennis is my favorite sport to play and I love to watch football.  Richard and I like to go to football games and enjoy long car trips together.

My favorite part about teaching is getting to know students and building a rapport with them.  It is key to their success and how much they will persevere when they are learning.  It also helps them feel safe and loved.  It gives them a sense of sincere acceptance and trust.  I believe that we can set a high standard of learning for our children.  Then we can love and encourage them to reach for that bar.  They are so much fun to work with!  I want them to explore all they want to know.

I love my job and I am blessed to be a part of the Saint Anthony School Community.

Hello! My name is Abby Buie and I am so excited to be your teaching assistant this year! I’m so happy I get to see some familiar faces from last year and some new ones as well! This is my third year at Saint Anthony Catholic School and I have loved my time here so much and feel very blessed to call this my job. I have a BA in Psychology from Francis Marion University. I have been a tutor for seven years and have worked with kids ages 4 to 17, and now assist in tutoring at this school. I also help in after school care when needed. I previously worked as an instructor at Girls University, an after school daycare for girls centered around STEM.

I have lived in Florence my whole life with my parents, my younger sister, my cat, and my dog. I also occasionally help at the front desk at iHope Christian Care & Counseling, a faith centered counseling center supported by Sandhurst. In my free time I love reading, painting, playing video games, and spending time with friends and family. I also love taking care of plants, going on walks, and going on day trips.

We will focus on safety, responsibility, and respectfulness to create a loving environment conductive for learning and growth. I am so excited to aid your children in learning and can’t wait to get to know them even more this year!
