Your child should be completing the nightly homework as indicated in the front of his/her copybook. Although it is not mandatory, we encourage you to help your child to practice finding familiar letter sounds, reviewing letters learned in the earlier part of the year, and using word families to create rhymes. This will help to reinforce concepts your child is learning.
Letter of the Week
Kindergarten follows the Wilson Fundations curriculum. Each week we will be learning about letters and sight words. We will learn how to write two letters at a time in lowercase, then uppercase. We will focus on one letter sound per week.
Monday Evening: handwriting letter practice, sight word worksheet
Tuesday Evening: handwriting letter practice, sight word worksheet
Wednesday Evening: handwriting letter practice, draw 3 pictures which begin with the letter of the week
Thursday Evening: prepare item or picture for Sound Share
-choose an item that begins with the letter of the week
-place item in brown lunch bag
-prepare 2 clues about the item
-the clues can be written on the bag
In addition to assigned homework, please be sure to practice reading our sight words and word families with your child.
Continue to help your child reinforce the letter/sound concepts relating to what we are working on in school. This will help them with reading readiness.
