  Annual Report 2023-2024                  “SHS Library Makes A Difference!”          

The mission of the school library program is to provide an inviting, dynamic learning environment & services that support & enhance teaching, literacy & learning.

Inquire

• Coordinated new Interface application of Destiny Discover (Library Catalog & Research Platform) to assist librarians in integrating program with users

• Investigating connecting the districts’ libraries to Overdrive (public library ebooks).  IT is working on this.

• Promoting ebooks periodically throughout the year that were acquired from grant

• Researched “Genrefication” in order to facilitate Librarians Curriculum Day as well as AASL Standards

• Attended district PD: (2) AI, Event Planning 101, Transforming Classrooms: Strategies for Effective Behavior Intervention 6th-12th

• PDs attended: Destiny webinars: Inventory and Destiny Updates

• Mentored Makerspace meetings so that students could explore and inquire with hands-on materials and activities

• Conducted extensive research on AI as a tech tool

Include

• As Chromebook Caretaker, processed and barcoded new Chromebooks

• TAs assisted with displays and technology activities

• Makerspace held “Bring a Friend Day” and gave tours of Makerspace to entice new members

• Updated signage to reflect changes and notify students of new expectations

• Students taking advantage of “Game Central” provided at lunch

• Grad Lab, 21st Century Tutoring, Makerspace, Youth Connections, History Days, Math Competition & Evening Academy held in Library

• Volunteers expertise canvassed for Makerspace

• Recruiting activities assisted with added membership for Makerspace

• Clubs, teams, staff etc  participated in Yule Duel

• Maker Fair involvement and collaboration with the Public Library and community

Collaborate

• Worked with Art dept. to celebrate student learning through display of projects

• Helped coordinate Mustang Medals Incentive Program

• Stratton/Bender-Coordination of  technology for testing & proctoring

• IT-Collaboration throughout year/with various individuals in the capacity of Chromebook Caretaker

• Mentoring new SPS librarian

• Organized & collaborated with teachers for classroom novel and textbook checkouts with English teachers

• Makerspace members collaborated with 3D print customers to provide products

• Hosted English Dept. Literary Bake Off in the Library 

• Assisted 21st Century Grant to organize  “Board Game Night”

• Coordinated with Makerspace volunteer who assisted with “Psycho Sewing Squad”

Curate

• Year long, periodic promotion of ebooks

• Managed textbook collection to include classroom set checkout/check in

• Discontinued unutilized magazine subscriptions

• Barcoded numerous novel sets for classroom/student use

• Wrote and won $500 grant for Spanish fiction & nonfiction print library books, Fiesta Bowl grant for color poster maker for the building and SEEF Grant for board games for the library 

• Acquired book donations shared by WGHS

• Accepted donation of Newbery Award books

• Makerspace items & activities added: donated sewing kits and sewing machines, storage boxes, 3D pens etc…

• Weeded/Deselected aged, damaged, non circulating fiction books

• Inventory performed on fiction section

• Cleaned up Lost and Deleted books in Destiny

• Continued role of Chromebook Caretaker-processed new Chromebooks & carts and successfully deployed carts to buildings, created & monitored Chromebook cart schedules, also computer lab schedules

• Lead collaborative STEAM endeavor, Maker Fair (over 300 participants)

• Continued with Library and Makerplace remodel

• Introduced new Color Poster Maker for the building as a new educational tool

Explore

• Continued learning about and integrating Canva for Library Tidbits, fliers etc…

• Utilized literacy building activities & grant purchase possibilities from resources acquired through PD

• Assisted and learned about practical applications of the 3D printer and delighted in watching Makerspace members experiment with new, fun filaments & troubleshoot issues

• Anticipating a new tech. Volunteer for next year’s Makerspace

• Ventured into the realm of creating a float for Homecoming with Makerspace

• Successfully explored and instigated the new Makerplace work area

• Explored and researched AI for self improvement and inclusion in future lessons

• Worked with Makerspace students on expansion for next year (project managers)

Engage

• Signage revamped around the library to appeal to students & freshen the environment which Included redesigning large sign

• New Makersplace alcove to entice interest in Makerspace activities

• Maker Fair hosted by SHS Makerspace & The Pima Branch of the Pima County Public Library (over 300 participants and visitors) as well as outside organizations, SHS departments & clubs)  Tokens created by Makerspace members given away and a drawing were a part of this STEAM celebration.

• Promoted Makerspace in the Library with a “”Bring a Friend” Halloween party

Unmet Needs

• Lack time & funding to weed & update print collection & for the acquisition of needed materials e

• Library furniture (tables & chairs) and carpet replacement

• Overdrive (connection to Public Library ebooks) IT working on Implementing

Goals

• Provide leadership to district librarians & share knowledge obtained through Master’s degree knowledge & applied through PD, as well as experience gained through work at various school library levels

• Continue to facilitate Library Curriculum days

• Collaborate with district librarians to promote what we do, obtain district funding 

• Continue to provide communication through Library Tidbits newsletter, electronically & with strategically placed fliers

• Continue evolving with Makerspace program, including collaboration with our Raytheon volunteer, sewing volunteer, WGHS and the Public Library

• Continue to evaluate whether the genrefication process in the fiction section of the library

• Continue to promote ebooks as a form of reading option

• Persist in gaining knowledge in technology aspects as related to education
