Book by Bob Martin and Don Mckellar
Music and Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison
SYNOPSIS: Man in Chair, a devoted musical theatre fan, invites the audience into his apartment to listen to his favorite cast album, The Drowsy Chaperone. As the record plays, the musical springs to life around him! The musical follows glamorous bride-to-be Janet Van De Graaff, who plans to give up the stage to marry Robert Martin, but their wedding day quickly descends into chaos thanks to a colorful parade of eccentric characters— including her hilariously inebriated chaperone, two scheming gangsters disguised as pastry chefs, a melodramatic self-proclaimined ladies man, an ambitious Broadway producer, a flighty host, and a scatterbrained chorine. Packed with mistaken identities, outrageous physical comedy, and show-stopping numbers, this show is a loving send-up of 1920s Broadway that also celebrates the joy, escapism, comfort, and enduring magic musical theatre provides.

AVAILABLE ROLES
PLEASE NOTE: Many of these roles can be played by performers of any gender, so go for the roles that appeal to you the most!
MAN IN CHAIR - The show's present day narrator, and a musical theatre aficionado, he guides the audience through the show as it comes alive in his NYC apartment. Deeply introspective and agoraphobic, he offers factoids, opinions, and details about his own life, as well as the musical we are watching. Anytime he is feeling "blue" he listens to his records, and can be very passionate and enthusiastic about musicals. The only character who is not a stock character from the 1920s, and grounded in reality. Strong actor, minimal singing.
JANET VAN DE GRAFF - Star of Feldzieg's Follies who is conflicted about giving up her life on the stage to marry Robert Martin. She is glamorous, vivacious, outgoing, and LOVES being the center of attention. The consummate 1920s starlet. Played by rising star Jane Roberts. Strong movement skills and French accent a plus. Strong Singer, Actor, Dancer.
ROBERT MARTIN - The groom-to-be who is deeply in love with Janet. He is the token 1920s leading man - debonair, dashing, and energetic, as well as cheesy, cheerful, and optimistic. Played by matinee idol Percy Hyman. Tap dance and roller skating ability a plus. Strong Singer, Actor, Dancer.
DROWSY CHAPERONE - Janet's alcoholic confidante and friend, she is a melodramatic diva to be reckoned with who gleefully chews the scenery and steals just about every scene she is in! An experienced "woman of the world" who couldn't care less what the world thinks, she is always slightly inebriated, and carefree. Played by well-established stage actress Beatrice Stockwell. Great comedic timing a plus. Strong Singer, Actor.
ALDOLPHO - A lothario and self proclaimed "ladies man" who is very impressed with himself. Confident, vigorous, and a buffoon, he goes after the things he wants, which is often women. Played by former silent Italian movie star Roman Bartelli. Great comedic timing, and a Latin or Italian accent a plus. Strong Singer, Actor.
MRS. TOTTENDALE - A wealthy widow and host of the wedding. She is flighty, eccentric, and often times forgetful, while being absolutely charming at the same time. Oblivious to the confusion her behavior generates in other people, always looks on the bright side, and loves love! Played by Ukelele Lil. Great comedic timing and ukulele skills a plus. Must be comfortable with spit takes. Strong Singer, Actor.
UNDERLING - Mrs. Tottendale's unflappable butler who is thrifty and stiff, but also has an understated sense of humor. He is stoic, dry, and sarcastic. Played by Noel Fitzpatrik. Great comedic timing a plus; must be comfortable with spit takes. Strong Singer, Actor.
MR. FELDZIEG - Harried producer who will do anything to stop the wedding in order to keep Janet in the Follies. He is nervous, sarcastic, impatient, overbearing, and can be insensitive. Played by Jack Adler. Comedic timing a plus; minimal singing. Strong Actor.
KITTY - 1920s dim-witted, blonde chorine. She is Mr. Feldzieg's companion, and dreams of being a star! Will do anything to be a leading lady. Played by Sadie Adler. Great comedic timing a plus. Strong Actor, Singer, Dancer.
GEORGE - Robert's anxious best man. He is loyal, sincere, and nervous. He makes looking out for Robert's interests his top priority so that the wedding will come off without a hitch, and always has Robert's best interest at heart. Tap dancing skills a plus. Strong Singer, Actor, Dancer.
GANGSTERS #1 and #2 - Two jovial gangsters who are posing as pastry chefs! This duo intends to collect from Feldzieg, and there's "muffin" he can do about it! Played by vaudeville duo The Tall Brothers. Stylized vaudeville movements and comedic timing a plus. Strong Singers, Actors, Dancers.
TRIX THE AVIATRIX - The brave and brash female aviator who, by chance, is recruited to perform at the wedding. A take charge kind of gal. This role will also be in the ensemble. Strong Singer, Actor.
ENSEMBLE - The many additional characters in "The Drowsy Chaperone's" show within a show that create the world of the musical, including TOTTENDALE'S STAFF, TRIX's CO-PILOTS, CLOUD DANCERS, REPORTERS, and the SUPERINTENDENT, who will also be cast from this group. Strong Singer, Actor, Dancers.
