Welcome to Mrs. D'Angelo's reading website!

It is my pleasure to share my passion for reading with my students and assist them on their learning journey to becoming confident, fluent readers who enjoy the gift of reading! The home-school connection is essential for building a strong literacy foundation. Please use the resources below to strengthen your child's home reading and please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you have at kdangelo@sagahrborschools.org

Below are some helpful sites to assist parents and caregivers at home to support reading instruction.

Is my child reading a book at their "just right" reading level?

Students are assessed using the Fountas and Pinnell A-Z rubric. If you know your child's reading level, you can view just right books at their level using the following website:

Students may be interested in reading books that are several letters above their reading level; this is an excellent opportunity for you to read aloud to your child! Ask them questions about the story and make connections to the experiences you share.

    • Tips for reading to your child
      • Kids are never too old or too young for read alouds!
      • Reading the same book over again is not only ok, it's great! It helps build comprehension on deeper levels and builds fluency.
      • Talk about the book before you read it, look at the cover, pictures, make predictions about the story.
      • Ask open-ended questions such as: What do you think will happen next? Why do you think the character did that? How does the character feel? How do you know? Has this ever happened to you?
      • Answer the questions your child may have while you read.
      • After reading, talk about the book and ask questions such as: What was your favorite part? Go back to that page and talk about it some more. Make connections to the experiences you share.

Another common question parents and caregivers ask is, "Is this book appropriate for my child?" Common Sense Media rates books (movies, TV Shows, apps, and games too!) on their age-appropriate levels.

Happy Reading!!!
