Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Parent Portal and how do I sign up?

Most of you have already set up a parent portal account in order to view report cards and state testing results. You can log into the Parent Portal for your middle schooler in order to view every assignment that is due, and what your child received for a grade if it was handed in. It is very important to consistently check the portal to ensure your child is not getting too far behind, and to ensure that they are aware of everything that is due.

If you are having issues logging into the parent portal, or need help setting up your account, you can contact Kristen Doran, the school registrar, at kdoran@sagharborschools.org.

What is Google classroom?

Many of your child's teachers will have Google Classrooms that can be accessed from your home computer. Google classrooms often have a variety of resources necessary for completing homework assignments. Some notifications will go directly to your student through their school email, and you might not necessarily receive a copy. This is intentional, as our students are being encouraged to manage their own time and resources. If your child appears consistently unaware of past due dates and missed assignments, the first place to start is to contact the teacher directly and discuss some solutions.

When is summer orientation? When do class schedules come out?

Summer orientation usually occurs some time in the third week of August. Class schedules are typically handed out there, or will be mailed around that time.

How does my child pay for food in the cafeteria?

The cafeteria accepts cash, but the preferred method is to use a MySchoolBucks account. It's the same account used to sign up for SHAEP. If you don't have an account already, you can sign up for one here: https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/login/getmain.action

The cafeteria usually posts its menu for the week here:  Food Services Webpage

What clubs are available for sixth graders?

A link will be provided in September

Where do I drop off and pick up my child?

Students must be in their classes and ready to learn at 7:50. Drop off zones are the parking lots on Division Street and Jermain Avenue. Note you CANNOT make a left hand turn into the Division St lot during morning drop off. Pick up starts at 2:51 at the same lots. If your child is not in class by 7:50, they will need to go to the office for a late pass and they will be given detention.

If your child has a change in plans regarding dismissal (e.g., usually rides the bus but is walking into town one day), there is no need to send a note.

What is the cell phone policy at the middle school? What do I do if I need to contact my child?

Middle school students are not permitted to have cell phones during the school day. If you need to reach your child due to an emergency, you can call the main office and a message will be delivered. 631-725-5302
