Design Metals and Welding and Machine Production are taught in consecutive semesters in the same academic year. These courses are designed to provide student with the basic knowledge and skills in the safe set-up and operation of Oxy-Acetylene and Shielded Metal Arc Welding. Welds will be made on various joints and with various electrodes. Oxy-Acetylene cutting will also be a point of emphasis. The student will also gain experience in the safe operation of the following machines: drill press, vertical mill, engine lathe, horizontal bandsaw and pedestal grinders. Students will also gain experiences in precision layout and measurement using: surface plates, height gauges, micrometers, dial calipers and dial indicators.
