Mindfulness Practice with Mrs. Lake

Class Description: Through pre-recorded lessons, Mrs. Lake leads you through a practice of mindfulness with an introduction to the Growth Mindset and four lessons on putting mindfulness into practice in your students' lives. Included is a full Growth Mindset curriculum as well as a Growth Mindset portfolio.

Grades TK-2

Read, Sing, Write, Draw!

Class Description: Listen to a great children's story read aloud, then participate in a fun, active sing-along with songs related to the story. Use the guided lessons to respond to reading through writing.

Dance Class with Miss Kelly

Class Description: In this 45 minute pre-recorded class students will get to do some physical warm ups and stretches as well as learn a fun, upbeat dance. If your student loves to move - they will enjoy this dance class that will also review the importance of warming up and stretching the body as well as some basic dance skills (counting, rhythm) and moves.

Materials Needed: Open space and comfortable clothes you can move in.

LEGO Building and Descriptive Writing

Class Description: Build with LEGOs and develop writing skills along the way! This 6 week course includes a weekly LEGO challenge and a video slide show with an inspiring read aloud and instructional mini-lesson. At the end of each week, every student will have created an amazing LEGO build and an incredible descriptive paragraph. **The Flipgrid portion of the is class will not be used as this class is not live at this time.

Community Helpers

Class Description: Come join in on the fun as you learn all about community helpers. You will learn about a different community helper each week for a total of six weeks. You will read a book, go on a virtual field trip as well as work on creating your very own community.

Read Aloud and Draw

Class Description: Do you love to listen to fun and engaging books or stories? Have you ever wished you could draw the characters you just read about? Read the books listed for each week and discuss the characters in our story, the plot, the setting and the beginning, middle and ending of our book. You don't need to be the best artist, all you need, is to have a love of reading and drawing. Come explore fun books and learn to draw exciting characters too.

OREO Opinion Writing

Class Description: All children have opinions, use these resources to teach them how to put them into a well-crafted paragraph! Each week enjoy a popular children’s literature book and write an opinion paragraph based on the book. Pre-recorded videos include a weekly teacher read aloud, discussion of the opinion writing prompt, and direction on the “Oreo” writing approach.**Flipgrid portion of each class will not be available as this is not a live class.

Cooking Book Club

Class Description: Students will embark on seven cooking adventures after reading picture books related to their edible creations. Students will measure, mix, create, and cook various dishes. Each cooking adventure includes a picture book that students can read or have read to them, which will connect to the food item which will be cooked. After reading the book, use the included recipe. Students will connect literature to their lives in a yummy way. Optional educational extension activities are posted for each book.

Storytime! Folktales Around the World

Class Description: Grab your passports! Travel to a different places around the world and read a folktale from that culture. Students will be able to determine the message of the folktale, learn about its origins, and complete a fun craft!

Fractured Fairy Tales Reader's Theater & Fairy Tale Writing

Class Description: “Once upon a time…” there was a teacher who taught an amusing class about fairy tales! Use these resources to read and discuss classic fairy tales. After the reading a fairy tale, a corresponding “fractured” fairy tale will be introduced and then students can perform the tale as a reader’s theater. (Example: “Goldi Rocks and the Three Bears”) Everyone will have a chance to participate and get into character! At the midpoint of our class, students can work on writing their very own creative “fractured” fairy tales.

Storybook STEAM

Class Description: Storybook STEAM is a fantastic introduction to learning how to start working scientifically. Listen to a story and complete a STEAM challenge. Challenges will invite students to imagine, plan, create, and improve upon a story-related project. Recommended for 1st- 3rd Grade.

Materials Needed: An assortment of building materials for your children to choose from (i.e.. empty containers, empty toilet paper rolls, blocks, paper, etc.) Be sure to have a selection of sturdy/heavy and flimsy/light materials to choose from. Glue, tape, paper clips, stapler, rubber bands, etc.

Charlotte's Web Reading Resources

Class Description: Charlotte's Web is a beloved children's novel that kids and adults of all ages will enjoy reading. You will get to read this wonderful novel, explore new vocabulary words, take a virtual field trip to a farm, learn the differences between spiders and insects, and SOOO much more. I hope you will enjoy reading this book!

Building Emotional Intelligence with Shubert and Sophia

Class Description: Each week you will read a story about Shubert and Sophia as they learn the skills of emotional intelligence. Discuss the book and apply the new skills to our lives through discussions. A follow up worksheet/project is included for each week. Addition parent resources and extension activities can also be found here.

Fun with Tangrams

Class Description: This class is all about tangrams! Students will be introduced to what tangrams are, learn new math vocabulary and make their very own tangram creations. Each of the four lessons will explore one of the many stories of where the tangrams are thought to come from, teach the names of shapes and new math vocabulary related to the tangram pieces, create tangram pictures while listening to a story read aloud and create a picture of your very own.

Sarah Plain and Tall Novel Study

Class Description: This much-loved novel that is set on the prairie in the late nineteenth century, is a classic! If you like the Little House series, this book is for you! You can use the resources from this class that was previously taught live via Zoom to read and explore this novel on your own. This book is one in a series, so hopefully, you will fall in love with the characters and be inspired to continue reading!

Bridge to Terabithia Novel Study

Class Description: Looking for a FUN way to get together and discuss a great book about friendship and adventure. Start your own Bridge to Terabithia BOOK CLUB where you can meet to discuss the book and do some extension activities together and at home. Bridge to Terabithia is about Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke, two fifth-graders who become friends and create an imaginary land called Terabithia, where they can go to forget about their problems. This will provide you with all the resources you need!

Sign of the Beaver Novel Study

Class Description: In this 4-week study, students will read and immerse ourselves in the award-winning novel, The Sign of the Beaver. As you journey through the wilderness with Matt and Attean, you will learn more about the relationships built between white settlers and Indians in the 1700s. Use these resources independently or make your own book club and use these activities to guide reading and discussion!

STEM LEGO Challenge

Class Description: This STEM LEGO Challenge session consists of a different LEGO challenge each week, focusing on a different theme. For example, the session focuses on bridges! Each session will go over the history and background information for each of the themes, followed by a challenge for each student to create a LEGO replica that fits within that week’s theme. The class will involve students researching, planning, and building. A fun bonus would be to share your creations with your Teacher, friends or family members!

The One and Only Ivan Book Club

Class Description: Are you a book lover? Do you love animals? Then this is the class for you! The One and Only Ivan was made into a movie and and is great way to spark a compare and contrast activity!

Class Description: Hip, Hip, Hooray! Let's learn about our states and capitals. These class resources include map work, interactive games, at home activities, virtual tours of state capitals, discussions and history about different states and capitals. Punnett Square Paper Pet Family

Class Description: Have you ever wondered how two parents with brown eyes can have a child with blue eyes? Or how about why only some people can roll their tongue? Use these resources to discover the genes behind various dominant and recessive traits that make us who we are. Class Description: Want to learn some essential Google tech skills or take your tech skills to the next level? In this hands-on course, you will learn to create your own Google Docs and Google Slideshows. You will be shown how to use these tools to customize projects and kick your assignments up a notch!

This class is perfect for students with very little tech experience, students who have some tech experience, students who have Microsoft/PowerPoint experience and want to acquire Google skills, students who want to prepare for SOLO and other online classes, and students who want to create and have fun!

Esperanza Rising Novel Study

Class Description: This reading plan covers the whole novel, Esperanza Rising, by Pam Muñoz Ryan (13 chapters). In this riches to rags story, your student will explore an infamous time in history, the Great Depression, through the eyes of Esperanza Ortega, daughter of a wealthy rancher whose life is turned upside down when she is forced to move to California and become a farm worker. Esperanza means hope, and hope is what Esperanza needs to find a way to rise above her difficult circumstances. This book has it all, and through it, we will discuss symbolism, conflict, theme, character, and vocabulary through the context of historical fiction.
