An Exhibition Goes Online

The annual High School Regional exhibition is a showcase of the best artwork from the New York Capital Region's high school students. In the course of planning and installing this year's exhibition, our world, like everyone’s, came screeching to a halt. We were forced to close Opalka Gallery and delay the opening of the exhibition. Heartbroken that we could not celebrate the outstanding talent of our region’s high school students in a professional exhibition, we decided to do the next best thing— we created this online gallery. While certainly not the same as seeing art in person, this website provides a public space where people can safely view the entire body of work and celebrate these young artists.

This year, 24 districts or schools submitted over 500 artworks. Ultimately, 108 works by 97 artists from 22 schools were selected by a jury of local artists: Rachel Baxter, Melinda McDaniel, and Jordan Nathaniel White. Opalka Gallery is the proud host of the High School Regional exhibition every three years in rotation with other local galleries.
