Honors & Awards
Julia Cobble Valedictorian
Julia Cobble is a December 2019 graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition Science. Julia, originally from Albuquerque, NM, is the daughter of Molly Smith and Steve Cobble. During her time as an undergraduate student at Sage, Julia enjoyed serving as the student representative on the Nutrition Department Advisory Board. Julia cited Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Nutrition among her favorite courses at Sage, as they helped her understand more fully the connections among physiology, nutrition, and disease, which is important to her as a dancer and personal trainer. She also noted Dr. Eileen FitzPatrick, Chair of the Nutrition Science Department, as one of her favorite professors, appreciating Dr. FitzPatrick’s “vast knowledge and experience” and ability to inspire students to learn more about the Nutrition profession. When informed of the news, Dr. FitzPatrick stated, “Julia is a great student and has been a true asset to our department. We are very happy and excited for her!”
Julia is currently enrolled in the Applied Nutrition Master’s degree program at Sage, and has been accepted in the Dietetic Internship program to begin in August 2020. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Julia shared this fun fact: “My husband taught me how to surf, and while I am still very much a beginner, it is one of the most fun experiences I have ever had. I will keep practicing!”
Katherine Keenan Salutatorian
Katherine (Katie) Keenan is a May 2020 graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Katie hails from Troy, NY and is the daughter of Gregg Keenan and the late Linda Keenan. She noted her Med/Surg Nursing courses as among the most enjoyable, difficult, and valuable courses at Sage, stating that. “The knowledge we gain in the class is the foundation for our entire nursing career.” Katie expressed particular appreciation for Prof. Marcy Fiet, describing her as an excellent educator who cares for her students, conveys her passion for her work, and creates an engaging learning environment. Prof. Fiet was excited to learn that Katie was this year’s Salutatorian, stating, “Katie is a tremendously driven and dedicated young woman. She is always looking for more knowledge and deeper meaning, and she will no doubt make a meaningful difference in the lives of her patients. Welcome, Katie, to the (Sage Sisterhood and) long and proud tradition of Sage Nurses!”
Katie has already accepted a position at Albany Medical Center on the medical cardiology unit, and looks forward to working and gaining experience before returning to school to further her education. In addition to her impressive success as a Nursing major and soon-to-be Nursing professional, Katie also holds a Bachelor's degree in public health, which she credits with helping to lead her toward the path of Nursing.
