October 10th was officially World Mental Health Day, but EVERY DAY should be mental health day! This is a reminder to always check up on the people in your life and reach out when you are struggling. Life has so much to offer and your presence makes the world a better place :)

In 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 14 into law that legally allows students in California to take mental health days as excused absences. Doctor’s notes are not required, and students are allowed up to 5 excused absences per year--NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
According to Dr. Crawford from the National Alliance for Mental Health (NAMI), “The whole purpose of mental health days is to recognize and to acknowledge the fact that these symptoms from these mental health-related conditions can interfere with a young person’s ability to be fully present in school”.
Think of this like a sick day! By law, all schools must offer this so if your school doesn't yet, let's be sure to bring it up with the administration!

Tips and tricks for you to support your mental wellbeing:
Make your sleeping space/room the most comfortable for you - better sleep = less stress.
Sleep at a consistent time and try not to go on your phone before bed.
If you feel overwhelmed, go out in nature.
If you feel down, helping others may help you.
Try finding the little moments of joy in life.
Sticking your hand out the window while driving and feeling the wind on your hand
Good music at a cafe or restaurant
Your pencil is perfectly sharpened

Don’t worry so much about people judging you.
Makes one mini pie
Ingredients
½ cup flour
3 TBSP cold Butter cubed
2-5 TBSP Ice Cold Water as needed
Filling
1 apple sliced
1 tbsp sugar
Pinch of salt, cinnamon and nutmeg
Instructions
Preheat the oven 375 F
Mix the flour, salt and other spices, and butter till the form a dough adding water as needed.
(½ cup flour, pinch of salt, 3 Tbsp butter)
Knead and roll the dough out into a circle about ¼ inch thick and place it in a cupcake tin or bowl(depending on what you use you may need to split the dough)
Mix the filling ingredients together and put them in your pie
Bake at 375 F for about 10-20 minutes or until golden brown
(You can also air fry it instead)
Cool for 5 minutes and enjoy!
