Volunteer Application and Training Steps

1. 1. Apply online: Submit one application per household at https://sfcms.net/apply/. 

1. 2. Complete background check: Every adult (18+) in your household must fill out a Background Check Form online [Link to Online Form]. Once submitted online we will automatically receive a copy. Once received we will send you a copy of this form that you will need to bring with you to the fingerprinting contractor. (Accurate Biometrics)

1. 3. Get fingerprinted: 

      • • Visit Accurate Biometrics with THREE items:

          1. 1. Your driver's license

             2. A letter that WE will provide you

             3. Signed copy of the Background Check Form you completed in step 2.

        • CHECK THEIR HOURS BEFOREHAND ONLINE:  [link to Accurate Biometrics website]

1. 4. Complete DCFS Mandated Reporter Training

      • • Illinois Mandated Reporter Online Training (send the certificate to Ben Shaw).

1. 5. Complete the SFFC Volunteer Training Courses:

1. 6. Schedule home assessment: (host volunteers only) Contact Ben Shaw directly to schedule a 1-hour home safety check.
