For this project we were asked to recreate a book cover and spine for an existing book using an advanced photoshop technique known as double exposure. This technique is associated directly with photography, which layers two different exposures on a single image, evidently combining two photos, into one. The book I chose to redesign was The Blue Plateau. (reference to the left.) The book is memoir of a poets move to The Blue Mountains and his attempt to belong there.
I images I have chosen for this design are of a typewriter (to represent the mans occupation and in turn encapsulating how the book was and is written) and a mountain and it's reflection on water (to represent the vastness of The Blue Mountains.)
I have chosen to do three exposures, one is the typewriter and the other two are of the same image (mountain) however one is desaturated and the other is in full colour. The reason I have done this is to bring attention to the typewriter and the orange hue which is often associated with such things as heat, warmth, change and freedom.
This project was very fun however, did have its challenges. How can you encapsulate a book in a single image? Well, using two images of course. Using the RIGHT images paired with cohesive typography and symbolic colours can create powerful imagery.
This was a collaboration project with the Dubai students aimed to capture the tone of voice for the brand HSBC. The goal was to re write a recipe of boiling an egg in the brands tone of voice. We discussed that the brands personality was professional, empowering and humanitarian. Their brand values were perceptive and responsive. They meet the needs of their diverse customers and give guidance with wisdom.
My aim was to stick to the brands style, which I boiled down to (pardon the pun) professional and uplifting. I chose to have "YOUR PERFECT" in their bright red hue to emphasise this (your meaning YOU'RE)
I chose to design two posters, one that was very minimal and the other with the recipe. I wanted to make sure all basis were covered, however chose to challenge myself, as typography and placement is equally if not more than important than than the imagery itself.
I believe the poster with no text however, is much more powerful than the design with the recipe. The eggs lead the eye and create a very thought provocative yet funny take away. The typography drives the tone of voice by being empowering and professional.
For this project we were to create a design solution for a problem in the world. I was teamed up with Sofia, Mark and Dan. The problem we though was having an impact on the world was that 129 billion disposable masks ended up in landfill world wide EACH MONTH. For us, a design solution was a must. Our main goal was, how can we bring awareness to this harmful reality and what can we do to help.
Our solution was to create a brand that focuses on bringing awareness... the collection and recycling disposable masks. We came up with a concept that hit all these points.
For the app, I collaborated with Mark Boyle. Within this app, not only are you educated on these ridiculous statistics, but you are also given some solutions. We have created a location where you are able to safely dispose of these masks, but you are able to access a community where upcycling and creativity flourishes.
I was in charge of designing everything from the app icon, login flow, home page (including projects) hamburger menu (including how we work and what we do) and profile.
It was actually really cool working together Mark, we were able to use the adobe suite to it's full potential and being able to bounce off each other really brought this app to life.

MUSIC / DESIGN COLLABORATION
For this collaboration I was paired with the music student Aaron. We were asked to create a album cover for something they were working on for their project. The challenge was to design something that met their visual approach and worked for the both of us.
The first concept for Aaron was to create a album cover that was a recreation of the last supper by Leonardo Di Vinci. From our first meeting, it was my understanding that he did not want something that felt "cartoonish."
It's not that this concept was out of my capabilities, but it was not what we first discussed and for a concept like that to happen, it would take me months, not weeks.
For this project, I was able to shift the concept to something else. For this SINGLE, Aaron wanted something RETRO and something that resembled the MTV logo.
