This Project involved a collaborative design with a musician from the Music Studio 2 Class. The brief required us to develop a branding concept and design a cover for their Music album, of which will be able to be presented on various social media and digital platforms. The musician, Ed, and I discussed various concepts and style influences during the client meeting. Through trial and error, various questions and design propositions were either accepted or shut down, a mood board was made, and the 90's Grunge style was ready to be cooked.
I tried to emphasise the 90's grunge, rock n roll theme through looking at cover's by iconic influences of the time such as the Red Hot Chilli Pepper's. I wanted a main illustration, being a non-binary figure of which is dark and ominous in combination with a saturated and bold, black and white background. The Typography was kept simple, in Serif as influenced from the 90's Grunge Rock scene.
My goal was to create something neo-expressionistic and dynamic through integrating my art with image manipulation. This collage of loose, painterly strokes mixed with photography and editing allowed the composition to be bold and powerful, as the strict colour pallet of black and white pops through contrast and burst's of red.
For this Project we aimed to redesign the cover of an existing book. I chose Vickie Hastrich's 'Night Fishing' book, as i was instantly engaged through my love for the ocean and it's mysteries. Night Fishing depicts various studies of life and it's divine essence, using the theme of water and fishing to explore nature, life, love, art and raw experience whilst on this earth. The essence of life. My aim was to capture this natural beauty of deep, raw connection, urge for exploration, experimentation and growth. The balance of light and dark, the beauty of the unknown, the dark and deep mysteries of the ocean, planet, and universe itself.
I tried to portray this through integrating the ocean and it's inhabitants with design of which we had to experiment with the double exposure photographic technique. The ocean was initially light and playful, representing what it is to me. Although the ominous and dark nature of what lies thousands of feet beneath the surface came to mind with the title being 'Night Fishing' and instantly The AnglerFish came to mind. Through year's of living at such depth's in complete darkness, through time they have evolved to be bioluminescent and rely on bacterial symbionts to produce their light. This to me represents the natural cycle of life, as from dark comes light. Hence the ocean symbolises adaptation, mystery, and tranquility whilst the AnglerFish personifies strength, resilience and growth.
For this Project we were placed into groups and asked to identify a modern day sustainability challenge, creating a design solution of which will positively impact our planet and society as a whole. Our initial group meeting involved discussion and brain storming, of which we came up with the Permaculture based idea of PermaProject.
This project would raise awareness of the positive impact's of permaculture and sustainable living through uniting and educating community members. We target all ages but give major focus to the younger generation within the Byron Shire educating the youth whilst helping supply fresh food to those in need by collaborating with Liberation Lader, a non-for profit organisation focused on reducing world hunger.
We individually produced a brand identity and brand style guides for the project, of which we later refined down a finalised version of the final branding, ready for print and digital deliverables.
This Project was a great collaborative effort of creative and innovative thinking, being a challenge for everyone to communicate, produce and finalise as a group. It was a great experience both connecting and creating on professional and personal levels.
This was a great experience using a professional camera in an environment of which is surrounded by beautiful land and creatives. Some of which being well experienced, professional Photographers.
Learning different tips and tricks to try and enhance natural lighting, landscapes, and focal points was really interesting, and i am very grateful to have such kind, intricate class mates and teachers.
Editing was kept natural, highlighting the organic nature of a well looked after, agriculture environment.
The Kids Booklet is designed to be interactive and educational for children and Parents who are interested in Permaculture. It provides key information and facts as well as various activities designed to engage and inform young children about permaculture in a fun, interactive way.
These include aspects such as, cut & paste, colouring in and find a word activities. Our goal is to connect kid's with the importance of permaculture and sustainable living at a young age, showing how fun and interesting it is, whilst raising awareness for the positive affects it has on our planet.
Keeping the kid's happy and excited to get in the garden is the soul purpose of this Kid's Brochure.
With literature and drawing activities the Parent's can enjoy there quiet time in the garden, or include and teach their children about the always changing eco-system of which sustains our planet.
Working as a group in this project we really had to trust and be mindful of our time management, organisation and group awareness of which really helped me improve and step up when needed. It was great integrating a more childish approach, as i realised that sometimes less is more, and that can often be quite difficult.
A small, fun and quick project done with the class of Dubai, was given some great feedback by both classes teachers.
1 hour of Power, producing a branding style for Palmolive.
Overall, like any journey this trimester had it's ups and downs, but to reflecting over everything we have accomplished and learnt is really fulfilling. There were definitely times where i felt like i should have dropped a subject in order to stress less and 'perfect' assessments. I have learnt that it's not about over doing it, it's just about doing it and enjoying the process. Doing my best to absorb everything possible whilst connecting and networking with great, kind and creative people. Its beautiful to be surrounded by so many legends and like minded people, of which love doing what they do, expressing. This is just another outlet now to enjoy, express and find happiness in life. I have enjoyed learning and challenging myself and have learnt some great new things about myself and my potential as an artist, designer and human. My program efficiency has increased, ability to communicate design literature has grown, and my ability to be persistent and resilient even when life throws 3 curve balls at once gives me a great sense of fulfilment. It's been epic listening and conversing through discussion and feedback from such intelligent and open minded people, and i consider myself very lucky.
