I set out on a journey a quest a mission from day one. My goal was to find an artist of soulful power even the the man downstairs would cowar. I musician that plays from the heart with pure conviction. On week three of my quest I found my artist who's name is Luke Yeaman. Luke Yeaman is a blues folk artists hailing from a distant land. We set out to record two tracks for his upcoming EP'.
Sleep'n dogs is a moody blues folk track that will chill you to the core. With Luke spinning words, Emily's soulful backing vocals, a beat that keeps a groove from the depths and a final guitar solo. You will surely feel the blues.
Wantirna South is a personal song that reflects a time in Luke's life and the area that we grew up. A more layed back tune that really features Luke's vocals and allows the listen to get a sneak look into the throughts of a great lyricsist.
The first step of this project was to reach out through a range of contacts to find an artist to recored. Once I made contact with Luke we began constructing a plan for the recordings. Out first two sessions were pre production and demo sessions to flesh out the songs and so I could get an understanding of the music I was going to be recording. These first sessions were also a great step into getting to know one another and gain confidence in each other. Our third and fourth session was our first days of production which we had drummer Ben Cox in the studio to lay down the drum bed tracks. Our fifth session was our first overdubbing session of acoustic guitar and the vocal session was then recorded in my home studio. At this point I wrote and recorded the lead guitar and bass and got Emily Tuner to sing backing vocals which was the final piece. I began mixing the two songs and shortly after I had two finished pieces.
Fragments is a project that I work in collaboration with Sofia Angeleri (Graphic Design) and Kian Wood (Audio). This project aims to stimulate emotional responses using visuals, colours and sound. Our project is driven by the audience's emotional and physical responses to question revolving around loneliness and connection. It is our intention that by using the audience to influence the content that it will form a sense of connection to the participating audience. This project is still in the development stage however we are constantly working towards a finished product.
La Hanna is a project that I have been working on for some time. It is quite different from other projects that I have my hands on which helps me to stay fresh and creative. The project is based around my love for jazz-hop and chill-hop. Simple hip-hop beats with groovy bass work, jazz style guitar, piano tied together with synthesisers.
From the start of this project I set my goals high and pushed myself to the place that I wanted to be. I new that I was nearing the end of my degree and that I wanted and needed some real life experience working with an artists as this is the career path I wish to pursue. I put myself out into the wide world by messaging and email offering my skills. This was a moment were I gained lots of confidence in myself and also in my ability. The result of me reaching out has helped me to make contact with artists in Europe, USA and Australia, this again has shown me the power of reaching out. By doing this project I have shown myself when put to the test I can come out with great results and no matter what gets put in front of me and can always work around to get the job done to a high quality. I have really enjoyed my time working with Luke and networking through Luke's contacts. I am always amazed at how I can create a positive energy that helps people around feel comfortable which in a recording environment is absolutely key. At the end of the day I have set out to record and mix an artist to a high quality and I feel that I have done everything in my power to get the end result which in my eyes is the best work I have done from the recording stage, mixing and just working close with artists.
