Learning and teaching

Lesson delivery

Some classes will be delivered in flexible blended mode accessible online. Some will be available only on campus. Please check your timetable for location details.

Protocols for online lessons

Remote practice skills and behaviours are essential to creative industry professionals globally. Your active and appropriate participation in Zoom classes is an opportunity to develop your remote practice, and will ensure you get the most from your SAE experience.

During Zoom classes you are expected to:

Attend classes and participate fully

● Use both video and audio for Zoom classes whenever possible - it’s challenging for others to collaborate and engage with you through a blank screen.

● If your internet is problematic and you need to turn your video off, let your group know, and keep involved via audio and chat.

● Make sure your virtual background is appropriate for the classroom.

Find a suitable environment

● Set up somewhere quiet where you won’t be interrupted during your class and where background activity won’t be distracting for others.

● Keep your audio on mute until you need to contribute.

● Use a headset with headphones and a microphone if possible- this will improve audio quality and prevent disruptions to people around you.

Behave as though you’re on-campus

● Don’t share Zoom meeting invites, IDs or passwords. If someone is missing from an invite list, notify the host.

● Dress and behave as you would when attending a class on campus.

● Adhere to SAE’s Code of Conduct, and participate fully, with respect and courtesy.

We thank all our students for embracing flexible, blended delivery and for engaging so actively and professionally. Your participation is a key component of the SAE experience, and contributes significantly to your assessment outcomes.

Practical sessions

Timetabled practical sessions will be delivered on campus. Your Facilitator will notify you when practical sessions are scheduled, and they may not necessarily follow the sequencing in the Module Guide.

Practical sessions that utilise portable equipment (for instance Cinematography or Live Sound) may be scheduled outside, weather permitting, so please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sun protection.

All students attending practical sessions:

    • Must sanitise your hands before entering a Studio / Set

    • Must wear a mask if physical distancing is not practical

We'd like to know a bit more about you

Blended learning creates a set of unique challenges, one of which is that it's more difficult to create a sense of community, and for the facilitators to differentiate the learning experience for individual students.

That why we're asking you to tell us a bit more about yourselves,, your reasons for studying, your current skills and aspirations, and to provide a photograph (also for your ID card, if you're commencing).

If you haven't done so already, you can enter your details here. If you have an SAE email, login using the "G sign in" logo at the foot.
