Shivanga Sadhana is a powerful sadhana offered by Sadhguru to bring forth devotion from within and enhance your receptivity to Shiva – the Adiyogi. The sadhana creates a strong physical and psychological foundation for inner exploration.
🧑 Anyone over the age of eight can participate in the sadhana.
🗓️ One can choose to do the sadhana for a duration of either 42, 21, 14 or 7 consecutive days.
How to prepare?
Initiation is available everyday from 13th Jan 2025 to May 25th 2025.
🌺 On registration, you will receive an email with a link to attend the initiation session online.
Below are the list of items you will need for the initiation. You can arrange them yourself or buy them at the nearest Ishalife or local centres.
A Dhyanalinga photo
A black cloth (approximately 18 inches x 3 inches) for tying on the arm
A specially-designed 21 bead Shivanga Rudraksha Mala with a powerfully consecrated Dhyanalinga pendant, a panchamukhi rudraksha mala, an Adiyogi rudraksha bead (received as part of Rudraksha Diksha), a single-bead rudraksha or any rudraksha mala
Bhiksha pathra (bowl to receive alms; for men)
Vibhuti
🌺 The initiation process will take about 90 minutes. Dedicate yourself for the entire duration of the session and ensure you have enough space as we will be learning the shiva namaskar practice.
The daily process for the sadhana is as follows:
Do 12 cycles of Shiva Namaskar on empty stomach. Then chant the Sarvebhyo Chant 3 times and Yoga Yoga Yogeshwaraya chant 3 times . This should be done once a day, before sunrise or after sunset.

A few points regarding the Shiva Namaskar practice:
Pregnant ladies are advised not to do Shiva Namaskar.
Ladies can do Shiva Namaskar during their menstrual periods.
People with hernia are advised to do the variations of Shiva Namaskar by using a cushion or a chair.
Light an oil lamp once in the morning and once in the evening. If a lamp is not available, you can use a candle.
There are a few guidelines to follow during the sadhana period.
Soak 8-10 peppercorns together with 2-3 vilva or neem leaves in honey, and a handful of groundnuts in water, overnight. After the Shiva Namaskar and chanting, chew the leaves, consume the peppercorns after mixing them with lemon juice, and eat the groundnuts as well. If neem or vilva leaves are not available, please take neem powder balls. Please be sure to finish your regular sadhana such as Shambhavi Mahamudra before consuming these.
Have only 2 meals a day. The first meal should be after 12:00 noon.
If you feel hungry, you can drink the peppercorn-honey-lemon juice and water mixture again.
Avoid smoking, consuming alcohol and eating non-vegetarian food.
A black cloth should be worn, tied on the upper right arm for men and the upper left arm for women. Any black cloth can be used, but the cloth should be 18 inches in length and 3 inch wide. Those participating in the sadhana can procure the black cloth by themselves.
Wear only white or light-colored clothing.
Please have a bath or shower twice a day using herbal bathing powder.
Apply Vibhuti on the following points:
Agna – between the eyebrows, Vishuddhi – pit of the throat, Anahata – just beneath where the rib cage meets, and Manipuraka – just below the navel.
Ask for Bhiksha or alms from a minimum of 21 people and offer it to Dhyanalinga at the time of culmination.
In-person Culmination
The process to culminate the sadhana in-person at Isha Yoga Centre, Coimbatore is as follows:
Shivanga Sadhakas can culminate in-person at the Dhyanalinga in Coimbatore.
Please come to the Shivanga Check-In Counter before 2 pm and collect your Tag.
Men will culminate with the Velliangiri Yatra. (If they are unable to go on the yatra, they can culminate with three cycles of Adiyogi Pradakshina.)
⚠️ Note: The Velliangiri Yatra is open only to individuals with no health conditions. People with conditions such as high blood pressure, asthma, severe knee pain, heart conditions, or any chronic health conditions are not eligible to participate.
Dormitory accommodation and food will be provided during your stay
Please carry a valid government ID proof
During your stay in Temporary dormitory, usage of any illicit materials is strictly prohibited
Please arrange the following offerings for Culmination
🌸 3 Coconuts, each tied in Black cotton cloth
🌸 Black sesame seeds, tied in Black cotton cloth( Ellu ball )
🌸 Bhiksha Hundi for Gents
🌸 Offering amount, tied in Black cotton cloth
These offerings can also be purchased from the stalls, near stay area.
Culmination Guidelines for Ladies:
Please come to the Shivanga Check-in Counter before 2 pm and collect your Tag.
Dormitory accommodation and food will be provided during your stay
Please carry a valid government ID proof
During your stay in dormitory, usage of any illicit materials is strictly prohibited
Women will culminate at Dhyanalinga with at least one cycle of Adiyogi Pradakshina (Velliyangiri yatra is not open for women)
🌺 Further details about the Culmination process will be communicated with you in person.
Shiva Yatra is a pilgrim walk (padayatra) or cycle or bullock cart journey to the foothills of the sacred Velliangiri Mountains to attend Mahashivratri at the Isha Yoga Center Coimbatore.
If you wish to participate, you must arrive at the Isha Yoga Center on foot, by bicycle, or via bullock cart. Upon arrival, the culmination details will remain the same as mentioned above.
You can also culminate the sadhana online.
How to prepare?
Kindly use the same initiation session link you received upon registration to join the culmination session. Culmination session. This process will take about 90 minutes. Ensure you attend from a quiet area and you have space to do Shiva namaskar.
🌺 You must plan to walk barefoot for 48 minutes while chanting the Mahamantra 'Aum Namah Shivaya'. You can choose to walk in a park, forest, or quiet street to enhance the experience.
Below are the list of items you will need for culmination:
Vilva or neem leaves (if both of these are not available flowers can be used as an alternative)
Sesame seeds
Camphor
Arati stand or a plate
Match box
Perform 12 or 21 cycles of Shiva Namaskar.
Chant Sarvebhyo Devebhyo chant 3 times.
Chant Yoga Yoga Yogeshwaraya for 48 minutes.
On the culmination day, offer vilva or neem leaves (if both of these are not available flowers can be used as an alternative) and sesame seeds to a photo of Dhyanalinga.
By keeping the chant on, participants can remove their black cloth and burn it with karpooram(Camphor)
Once the ashes have cooled, apply them to the arms and legs.
Keep the offered sesame seeds under your pillow for 12 days. After 12 days, immerse the sesame seeds in a water body.
Participants who culminate the sadhana online can donate the money for Mahashivratri MahaAnnadanam or offer food or money to 3 needy people.
Close the session with an Aarti to Dhynalinga photo.
