PBIS, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students at Fort Kent Elementary to achieve social, emotional and academic success. PBIS is a way for FKES to encourage expected and positive behavior. We teach kids about behavior, just as we would teach about other subjects like reading or math. The focus of PBIS is to prevent misbehavior, not to punish it. Clearly teaching expected behaviors and reinforcing students who follow them is a more positive and productive approach. Research shows this to be more effective than waiting for misbehavior to occur and reacting to it.
