Chorus is open to all students. No auditions, and no former musical experience is required. Anyone who wants to learn to sing in an ensable is welcome! Students will learn about proper vocal technique, how to read music, and how to work within an ensemble, while exploring a wide variety of choral literature. Chorus members are required to perform in our Winter and Spring Concerts. Additional performance opportunities include community tree lightings, caroling, Performing Arts Night and National Anthem performances at sporting and community events.

Treble Choir is an advanced choral experience available to students who have met the general chorus expectations and are sopranos and altos, which are the upper vocal ranges. This class will explore a wide variety of treble choral literature while working on vocal technique, choral blend, and performance practices. This class is open to any soprano or alto who has participated in the GNGHS Chorus for at least one year. Treble Choir members are required to perform in our Winter and Spring Concerts. Intro to Musical Theatre

This class is designed to be a broad exploration of the world of musical theater. We will learn about the history of musical theater, various composers, writers, and performers who have influenced the genre. We will also do some performance skill building. Students will be asked to do some singing, scene work and choreography. Students will only be asked to sing in groups - no solo singing is required.

Through rehearsal and performance, students will gain insight into a wide variety of literature of various styles, genres and periods. Students will acquire the skills necessary for well rounded musicianship, including but not restricted to, music literacy and instrumental technique. The Concert Band performs in school concerts and functions, as well at various community events. Attendance at performances is mandatory. Enrollment in Concert Band enables a student to audition for honors festivals such as District 2 Honors Instrumental Festival and Maine All State Band. This is a full year course.
Materials: Instrument and supplies, including oils, reeds, cleaning materials. Black semiformal clothes (GNG dress-code applies) for concerts and access to GNG polos/jackets for parades & events.
*Prerequisites: Know how to play a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument or have completed Instruments for Beginners (Lab Band), and Teacher recommendation.

This is a fun introductory music course where you can learn to play your choice of brass, woodwind or percussion instruments. No prior musical experience is necessary, as we will be learning how to read music while learning to play. After completing this class, you may continue on into Concert Band. Current Concert Band members can take this class if they want to learn a secondary musical instrument.

This is an introductory guitar course. No prior musical experience is necessary, as we will be learning how to read music while learning to play acoustic guitar. Although the school does own some guitars, students may bring their own guitar for use in class. Class size is limited to the number of instruments available. Text & Materials: Alfred's Basic Guitar Method. Students may bring their own guitars and store them in room 120 during the day.

The IB Theatre course encourages students to appreciate performance art through the processes of research, creation, preparation, presentation and reflection. As participants and audience members, through theater exercises and game play, they’ll gain a richer understanding of themselves, their community, and the world. The course gives students the opportunity to make theatre–to create, design, direct, and perform! It emphasizes the importance of working both individually and collaboratively as part of an ensemble. Students will stage play texts, explore world theater traditions, and also create original theater. The course may be taken for one year as an SL course. Interested students may opt to continue on for a second year to accomplish the requirements of the HL course objectives.
