The South Asian Centre for Teacher Development (SACTD), a UNESCO Category 2 Centre, in collaboration with Fulbright Sri Lanka, recently hosted a dynamic two-day interactive workshop designed for teachers and teacher educators. Expertly conducted by Dr. Monica Zhang, the programme offered engaging sessions on interactive teaching strategies, global trade simulations, cultural communication, and practical approaches for navigating cultural differences. Participants benefited from thought-provoking case studies and vibrant discussions, all aimed at enhancing professional skills and cross-cultural understanding. A special session led by Dr. Patrick McNamara, Executive Director of the USA-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission, provided valuable guidance on charting a successful path to Fulbright Fellowship opportunities, making the event an inspiring and enriching experience for all.

SACTD successfully hosted the "Publish or Perish" workshop on 16th January 2025, focusing on the essentials of research publishing. The session was conducted by Prof. Lakshman Samaranayake, a distinguished academic with numerous honorary titles, including Professor and Dean Emeritus of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, and King James IV Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK.
The workshop provided invaluable insights into academic publishing, benefitting teachers and teacher educators by equipping them with essential strategies for successful research dissemination. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the publishing process, enhancing their ability to contribute effectively to the academic and professional community. Through interactive discussions and expert guidance, attendees also had the opportunity to clarify their doubts and refine their research publication skills.

SACTD proudly inaugurated the Symposium on Educational Research in South Asia - SERSA 2024 on 17th January 2025, bringing together educators, researchers, and academics to explore emerging trends in educational research. The event featured two distinguished keynote speakers:
Prof. Lakshman Samaranayake – Professor and Dean Emeritus, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, and King James IV Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK.
Prof. Sujeeva Sethunge – Pro Vice-Chancellor, RMIT University, Australia.
Their insightful addresses set the stage for meaningful discussions on enhancing research culture and academic contributions in the region. The symposium served as a vital platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation, fostering academic excellence among researchers and educators.
